This is a re-read, but THE BIG BENTO BOX OF USELESS JAPANESE INVENTIONS is such a funny and unique book that it's one of the rare books that I actually kept instead of donating it like the rest. The photographs are high quality and have a slightly retro look to them that makes it feel like they were taken in the 90s. Speaking of photographs, I have to wonder if the Konica camera was a sponsor of this book, because the Konica mini appeared in these pages every time there was a camera chindogu device (and there were a lot - also shoes).

A wonderful collection of items for anyone who enjoy the ridiculous. The product overviews are part of the joke, so don't expect too much info who/when/where/what/why these funny items are invented.

This is a real example of a real reaction from one of my guests after picking up this book:

"Oh my god, I want to rip this book into little pieces."

My first time reading this was in Uniqlo SOHO... and man, I spent a good 10 minutes laughing at the book.
Turns out I ordered one on amazon since I regretted not buying it earlier

ISSA good book
Rivik
Funny and interesting book about clever and sometimes odd inventions.
Mataxe
Bought this for my brother as a stocking stuffer, he found it hilarious!

There are creative inventions you absolutely need, there are those you didn't know you needed, and then there are chindogus (Japanese art of inventing unusual gadgets). This is one of the funniest books I've seen in a while. The inventions presented here are so incredibly useless they are hilarious. The best chindogu is probably the book itself: a compilation of chindogus.
Purestone
Love that book

Hours of entertainment! Made a great gift.
This is a great book to have around the house, for visitors to enjoy. The creator clearly has a gifted sense of humor. While these are fictitious items, they are just real enough to seem like they might actually be useful. For example, the hat on the cover (made of toilet paper), while almost impossibly ridiculous, might actually be very useful during one of those colds where you have to get a Kleenex every 30 seconds. It is especially fun to turn each page of the book and see what is coming next.

Highly recommended!
