Psychic Confusion book.

Stevie Chick is a journalist who has spent the last 10 years travelling the globe, writing about music. It's definitely better than Confusion is Next, which for a long time was the only book about SY there was. Contributing to Mojo, Kerrang, TheTimes and NME, he helped launch fanzine Careless Talks Costs Lives. He lives in South London. Now we have a handful, including a good 33 1/3rd, two books by Kim Gordon, Lee's tour diaries, and so on. Hardcore fans will find something in all of these books, including this one.

Drawing on interviews with the group and the people closest to them, Steve Chick gives a fascinating insight into this most fearless and adventurous of bands, charting their revolutionary path and exploring the aftershocks they left both on pop culture and the counter-culture.

Psychic Confusion - Stevie Chick. This book is a sincere attempt to make sense of all these contradictions, of all that the group has reached for and achieved, a chance to tell the story of a band that has traced an entirely wilful and idiosyncratic path through rock’n’roll. The book also explores the pop cultures that have influenced Sonic Youth and the noise they make, and examines the colossal impact they in turn have made upon modern rock music: their influence, how they wield it, and how this power sits with them.

Psychic Confusion: The Sonic Youth Story. In the early 80s Sonic Youth regenerated the spirit of punk by creating their own spectacular brand of noise rock. Without them, much of the independent rock community that followed would never have come into being and it was a direct result of their influence that Nirvana releases Nevermind on a major label. Drawing on interviews with the group and the people closest to them, Steve Chick gives a fascinating insight into this most fearless and adventurous of bands, charting their revolutionary path and exploring the aftershocks they left.

If you're going to read one book about Sonic Youth, let it be Goodbye 20th Century. If you're going to read every book about SY, this isn't bad, it just relies too heavily on interviews with a couple of B-players in the SY story, as well as the author's own interviews. It's definitely better than Confusion is Next, which for a long time was the only book about SY there was. Now we have a handful, including a good 33 1/3rd, two books by Kim Gordon, Lee's tour diaries, and so on. Hardcore fans will find something in all of these books, including this one.

i remember the days of listenin ta da youth and findin meaning in the subtle exuberence of a melody that droned on for 20 minutes. then i read a book about them that confirmed the worse. no more.

There isn't too much about SY in this book. It is interesting if you want an account about the '80s in New York and US (no wave, hardcore..). Too much digressions, it is not a book mainly focus on the group.
