It's great that they finally put this collection of Doctor Who sound FX on CD. This collection was first released in 1978 on an LP record. I bought one in the 80's and thoroughly enjoyed it as a young fan of the series. There are Loads of classic sounds on here: The Dalek Control room (See)Doctor Who: Death to the Daleks(Among others), The interior of the Xoanon Computer (See)Doctor Who: The Face of Evil (Story 89), The Shrine of the Sisterhood of Karn (See)Doctor Who: The Brain of Morbius (Story 84), Four different TARDIS sound FX, the 1970's sonic screwdriver sound, and the Dalek gun blasts from Doctor Who: Genesis of the Daleks (Story 78). These are but a few of many memorable sound FX on this 30 track CD.
Clever
While this recording has some ancillary atmospheric effects, they tend to drone on for 1 to 3 minutes. The most essential SFX are missing. Can you believe there is not a single TARDIS takeoff or rematerialization? You get the doors opening and the TARDIS screen sound along with some ambient interior noise, but none of the wooshing TARDIS engine. There are also several retro synthetic ray gun FX and 3 significant Dalek sounds, but no Exterminate! I guess they wanted to avoid speech components. At least none of the sounds end abruptly or have soundtrack in the background. You can probably find better sound effects on the web for free and tailor them to your liking in a digital audio editor. Save your money and buy a good sound editor from MAGIX.
