I wanted to know more about this great actor so I downloaded this ebook. I did learn a lot about the man assuming the stories are accurate. The book is built around interviews with people who knew and worked with Day-Lewis and a lot of assumptions by the author about how he must have felt are made. I would prefer an autobiography! I want to know the real man, not the veneer.

This biography is outstanding. Ever since I brought home "The Age of Innocence" on 28 November 2015, I've started a miniature Daniel Day-Lewis marathon. This shouldn't be an autobiography in my opinion because it wrote on Wikipedia that he rarely speaks about his personal life. My admiration of Daniel grew stronger when he brought 3rd Oscar home. During that time, I didn't realize he was British. The thing that shocked me the most was the fact that Rebecca Miller was in Consenting Adults up to the moment where I saw Kevin Kline written on that page. It was sad to hear that none of Daniel's co-stars actually got to know him when they are off screen and when cameras stopped rolling. He became another person and then after filming of each movie is complete, it takes him about several weeks to months to stop becoming another person. I tried telling everyone I know that he and I have birthdays a day apart in April.(I was born on the 28th and Daniel was born a day later on the 29th.) It's well written.

When I found out he stayed in character on and off screen, I thought it only happened when he worked on Gangs of New York. But from reading this, I found he stayed in character in every movie he made. For example: When he worked on The Last of the Mohicans, he would stay away from modern technology and would probably hide in the woods while his costars were enjoying their breaks socializing and smoking. It makes me want to grab scissors and cut off that long hair. Daniel was never in the movie Silence. I know that from a video where at the 2013 Oscars he told the press that he need to have a lie down for a few years after Lincoln. (Trip over my thing.) I grew up listening to Eminem as a kid. Now I don't listen to the rapper anymore. I consider Day-Lewis the master of disguise; a chameleon even. Thumbs up. I've started reading this on 8 February and I finished it within 2 weeks.

Few actors can rival Daniel Day-Lewis for acting chops or turbulent personal life. Widely hailed as one of the greatest - if not the greatest - actor of his generation, Day-Lewis is also one of the most complex individuals to ever grace the silver screen. Noted biographer Laura Jackson details the life and career of this acting powerhouse in this revealing, well-researched biography published in 2012 by John Blake Publishing.

DANIEL DAY-LEWIS, THE BIOGRAPHY was originally released in 1999, this paperback edition updating his life/career to January 2013 with Day-Lewis' acclaimed LINCOLN portrayal. Though the British-Irish actor, son of U.K. Poet Laureate Cecil Day-Lewis, has been very selective in the films he's been involved in, his total commitment to a role has netted him three Oscars, making him the ONLY male actor in history to garner a trio of Best Actor awards. Likewise, few actors have walked away from the industry like the intensely private Day-Lewis, whose turbulent personal life has been tabloid fodder for years.

Jackson does an admirable job in revealing the actor and the man behind the mask. She combines revealing reminiscences from friends and colleagues with material from various Brit, Irish and American sources to present an appealing portrait.

Movie buffs will enjoy DANIEL DAY-LEWIS, THE BIOGRAPHY for its detailed information on and insights into this talented, enigmatic screen legend. Recommended.
