The Enchanted Horse book. In our Reading with Kids adventures, the next book to come up is The Enchanted Horse by Magdalen Nabb. This is a short, fast-reading book published in 1992 that I’ve had for many years. The story is that Irina, a farm girl, gets a wooden toy horse for a Christmas present.

New edition of the Smarties-Prize-winning story about a magical horse. Now published into the First Modern Classics list, fantastic stories for young readers. It's Christmas, but Irina's family don't have enough money to buy her the present she wants. Then Irina sees the wooden horse in the junk shop window and all she wants is to take it home with her. Irina is sad and lonely and she knows that the little horse is lonely too. But what Irina doesn't know is that this dusty little horse with the tattered mane is really an enchanted horse who comes to life and takes Irina on magical journeys.

This is just one of those great stories that gets a child's imagination going.
I used to babysit several children, and this was a favorite request for bedtime stories.

Not as magical as it should be.

I needed a cute, simple story for my daughter to read over the holidays for Accelerated Reader points. She likes this book and has read some of it out loud to me. Very cute.

This is one of my favorite childhood books. I love the magic of this book even in it's mundane setting. I still own the copy from when I was a little girl. I read it every night before bed for weeks when I first got it, and now that I have a little girl of my own, I can hardly wait to read it to her. It is a pity that this book isn't more popular.

I still remember where this book was kept in the local library. It was in the back right corner, on the second shelf. I think I checked this book out every few weeks. Somethings you forget as a kid, but this story has stuck with me from twenty years ago.

The story of a girl whose love for a sad, forgotten wooden horse enables its transformation to the beautiful horse of her dreams.

I bought it recently to read to my niece, and maybe one day to my own daughter.

I found this book while browsing in the library and came on here in hopes of finding one to buy for me and for one of my cousins. I guess I'm going to have to look in some second-hand shops now. A wonderful story, I admit I cried in some parts. Definately one to keep.

A young girl named Irina lives out in the country with her parents, helping on the farm. Her parents told her a while ago that she was getting to old to celebrate christmas and so they have no tree, no decorations and she is only allowed to buy one gift for herself. Trying to pick something to please her mother she ends up spying an old wooden horse in a junk shop window that she wants to save because it's being crushed. Her mother is not pleased with her choice,("probably a mass of wormwood!" claims her mother)but they allow her to take it home. That's where the story continues from(for that is truly the start of the story), but, it's hard to love an enchanted thing.
The Apotheoses of Lacspor
