The Dragon Keepers have a new mission! It's been raining for days, and dragon keepers Jesse and Daisy have been stuck inside with their dragon, Emmy. As soon as the rain stops, they are out of the house in a flash. First on their list of things to do? To find out what the villainous Dr. St. George—a dragon slayer in disguise—is up to. But Dr. St. George isn’t in his office at the college, and all of his stuff is gone! Jesse, Daisy, and Emmy quickly discover St. George’s latest evil plan: to take over the forest and find the magic golden ax that is buried there. To make matters worse, he has also enslaved the mythical beings that are returning to Goldmine City. Can the two dragon keepers and their dragon free the hobgoblins and dryads under St. George’s power and return the forest to right?

Emmy the dragon is getting a little bigger and a little more mature here in book two. The same cannot be said for this series as a whole.

The Dragon in the Driveway picks up shortly after the events of the first book, and not much has changed. St. George is still the primary enemy, and the setting remains confined to the limited number of locales in and around town, although we now get an abandoned mine to explore as well.

Book two takes a mystical turn by incorporating tree spirits and hobgoblins, but it's all rather nonsensical and surprisingly dull in execution. It's still Jesse and Daze vs. St. George. Ho-hum, nothing new to see here, really.

The best sequels expand upon the original and make the world of the story seem bigger. This one does the opposite. It's a lot of "more of the same" with diminishing returns. The problems of the first book are even more magnified now: the dull cardboard characters remain dull, and the weak plotting is neither exciting nor surprising.

I don't have high hopes for book three, but my niece and nephew are still interested in this series so I'll probably read it to them the next time they visit.

Our reluctant reader liked the characters especially the dragon. After reading this book we HAD to continue the series. This book is a good read aloud or independent read for any reader who likes fantasy and adventure.

My students love these books. They wanted the whole series and more than one book so they could read with a partner. The characters are captivating and the stories keep them interested. This has been a great series collection for my classroom of high level second graders.

This is a wonderful series. My 7 year old loves it, I love reading it to him, and it's encouraged him to read it himself.

We stumbled upon the 1st book The Dragon in the Sock Drawer and the girls loved it. It had everything a kid could ask for. How cool to find and hatch a dragon egg and then be part of the Dragon Keepers! We read it before bed everynight and were planning to purchase the whole series..... unfortunately last night as we read - we found the 2nd book's main focus turning to magic - all sorts of spirits and references to ouija boards, hobgoblins, tools jumping off the walls and wacking people, etc.... Things I do not wish to expose my 2 eight year olds to. They are also disappointed. We thought the story would treat the dragon as an adventure with a rare animal - instead its just the doorway to all things in the spirit realm.

Granddaughter, 9, grandson, 6, and I all love these books! They're exciting, intelligent and endearing. We're always late to bed so we can read "just one more chapter!"
Awesome series.
