Timothy Goes to School book. I started out liking this book, and I am a fan of Rosemary Wells' illustrations. But the ending for me was dissappointing. Not okay to laugh at other people, and certainly not a good message for the picture book set (or anyone for that matter). Aug 08, 2012 Amy rated it did not like it. Let me start by saying I love Wells and most of her work. Both of my kids have loved her Max and Ruby shows and books. I had bought Timothy Goes to School awhile ago for my daughter.

Claude sits next to him, and he wears all the right clothes, says all the right things, and garners all the praise from his teacher and classmates. This was kind of a good book, but unlike the television version of this story, Claude the raccoon told Timothy he shouldn't where his blue and white shirt to school, and that was when Timothy decided never to go back to school. Also, it seems to have one character from the TV series looking like a different animal.

I love this book as a kid, and now that I have a kid of my own, I had to get a copy. Timothy is just so relate-able. The book jokingly teaches kids that you might encounter some bullies or kids who think they are better than you - but there's always someone on your side. It's just a great, funny, lighthearted read.

Real life situation....but I was hoping for some better ideas for things kids could do when others are not nice to them. Thinking mean thoughts of others is not what I want to teach my children. I thought the mother offering clothes as a means of coping was shallow and not helpful.

This is currently #1 on my son's reading list. He could listen to this 20 times a day. I think he likes the fact that it's realistic---there are kids out there like Claude, that really make kids like Timothy not enjoy school as they otherwise would, but then Timothy is able to find a way to overcome his sadness. The pictures are wonderfully expressive. A real gem of a book.

I bought this book because my 3-yr-old grandson is totally into raccoons! I was delighted with the content and illustrations. I loved that some major socialization issues for children are presented in a positive, caring way. My grandson loves this book and I know we will explore more of Timothy's experiences together.
