Where is Squirrel? Does anyone care? Thayer gives you no reason to when Skunk, out of the blue, notices his absence and decides to play detective. The other animals assume a culprit-Rabbit says it's Fox, Chipmunk says it's ""those people"" in the house nearby-but when Skunk notices that Those People's bird feeder is empty, he figures out (and Chickadee, dispatched, confirms) that Squirrel is simply eating sunflower seeds in the next garden. A trumped-up, minimal mystery, given a bit of a lift by the droll expressions in Weissman's pale, tidy cartoons.
