This was a favorite of my son's when he was a little fellow way back when! It was such fun and such a joy to read to him and with him as he learned to read on his own! So when my sis's great-granddaughter turned 2, I decided we needed to get it for her for Halloween! It's a delightful little book that all wee ones enjoy and will want you to read over and over and over and OVER and OVER and OVER again! So be prepared to do so! The writing is simple but flows and the illustrations are just GORGEOUS! Ruth Brown is both the author and illustrator. I know we are not supposed to be envious of other's but gee whiz, I sometimes just cannot help it when I see such wonderful writing and such beautiful artwork and wish I COULD CREATE like that! At least God gave me the ability to appreciate a wonderful story, beautiful illustrations and the simple joy of reading! And treasure those times you spend with your child(ren) reading to him (them) as the years pass quickly....

My DS's class was reading this book so for weeks he was walking around saying 'Gar Gar Tale' after numerous times trying to ask him what he was talking about and he finally said it was a black cat. We came to the conclusion it was this book! Well he LOVES it, carries it around the house with him and even sleeps with the book. At 2.5 years old, he memorized the book and will 'read' us the book- and tell elaborate on the pictures on each page. It's so sweet and really opens up his imagination. I highly recommend it, it would make a great book for Halloween!

My (almost) four year old daughter was first introduced to this book in her preschool class. The book isn't very many pages and the story is very simple, but the illustrations are great. We've only owned the book for a week now and my daughter has already memorized every page. She now excitedly "reads" it to her brother.

My grand daughter loves finding the black cat in every picture. She thinks it is her cat because she has one that looks just like it.

I have loved this book ever since I was a child. The pictures are gorgeous. It is the perfect book for a learning reader, since there are few words. My kids (seven and five) love to read this to me.

Great fun story. You can add music in the background and make it a sound story. Spooky but not scary. Would recommend
I've loved this story for years...such safe, "spooky," fun. Lots of great detail to "find" in the pictures, too. This copy was purchased for the youngest grandchild, who loved it, too.
