Each of the stanzas has a double spread within the book, and is accompanied by incredible painted, cut-paper illustrations created by Pamela Dalton using the German "Scherenschnitte" technique. Most of the pages contain the sort of colors seen on the cover, with the exception of the spread devoted to "Sister Moon"

Brother sun, sister moon. Saint Francis of Assisi's Canticle of the Creatures. retold by Katherine Paterson & illustrated by Pamela Dalton. The song starts with Brother Sun and Sister Moon, Brother Air and Sister Water, and leads on to thanksgiving for Sister Earth and Brother Fire, through praise for those who can forgive, comfort for those who suffer, courage for those who make peace. There is praise for Sister Death, acknowledging fear but recognizing her as part of love for this life and the life to come. While I can indeed much appreciate Katherine Paterson's Brother Sun, Sister Moon: Saint Francis' Canticle of the Creatures, her lyrical adaptation of Saint Francis of Assisi's famous 1224 . Canticle of the Creatures, I still do rather wish she had kept closer to the original, I do wish she had actually translated Saint Francis' original prayerful poem instead of having.

Beautiful artwork to go along with St. Francis's famous Canticle. The depiction of animals as well as the youngsters help a child relate to what is being read to them. I bought it for the children's library in our church, along with another one; "The Prayer of St. Francis." The two books go together quite well.

The illustrations are the part of this book that stick in my mind. They are wonderful. The color stands out so much better on the black background than if they had been done on white. The words I cannot recall so that is not a plus. The words are retold by Katherine Paterson from St. Francis of Assisi and are like a hymn to nature. The outstanding illustrations by Pamela Dalton are of cut-paper. This is a perfect gift for the artistically inclined child who would study the pictures and treasure them, but not so much for a child who prefers action-packed adventures. This is a slower, contemplative book and it is now one of my visual treasures.

This is a beautiful book in word/prayer and gorgeous illustration. The 4 star rating is for the defective hard-back cover which is bound upside down. (Well, it was made in China.) I just noticed this. It is for my grand daughter's Confirmation in a week, so no time to exchange. She probably won't mind.

I love the hard copy of this book. The Kindle version is terrible. The text didn't match with the pictures and the pictures were so small my children could barely see them. The kindle version was a total waste of $10!

I like everything about it - the content, the beautiful scissor-cut illustrations, and the added bonus of the comments by Katherine Paterson and Pamela Dalton. I received the book as a gift; and I have now given it twice as a gift. Any book by Katherine Paterson is a delight and a blessing.

I get a Saint Francis illustrated book for my wife every Christmas (she loves animals), we have a few and this one is exceptional. Illustrations are lovely, as is the prayer. I also like how the complete prayer is in the back. Just great!

A beautiful prayer presented beautifully.
Amazing illustration of this book with just stunning papercut pieces by Pamela Dalton make up for the kind of simple storyline. Good book for kids who like to study the pictures and maybe expand upon the words.
