Part of The Wolves of Mercy Falls series by Maggie Stiefvater. As the hours crept by, the afternoon sunlight bleached all the books on the shelves to pale, gilded versions of themselves and warmed the paper and ink inside the covers so that the smell of unread words hung in the air. This was what I loved, when I was human. I was reading when the door opened with a little ding, admitting a stifling rush of hot air and a group of girls. They were laughing too loudly to need my help, so I kept reading and let them jostle along the walls and talk about everything except books.

Maggie Stiefvater is the New York Times bestselling author of the novels Shiver, Linger, and Forever. She is also the author of Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception/ and Ballad: A Gathering of Faerie. She lives in Virginia with her husband and their two children.

I was in luck; only her mom was sitting by her bed, looking out the window instead of at Grace. I tried not to look at Grace, who lay silent and white, her head turned limply to the side.

These cards are truly a masterpiece. I own several tarot decks and have been doing readings for myself and others for about fifteen years, so I'm definitely not a newbie. I was a bit hesitant to purchase them because although I love Maggie Stiefvater's amazing Raven Cycle series, I have been burned on bad tarot decks before. I hate to buy decks site unseen, so I really hesitated and agonized over my decision. But zero regrets over here. Even better than the cards themselves are the book that they come with, which gave me new insights into aspects of cards that I truly never thought of before. Thank you Maggie Stiefvater for reinvigorating my flagging interest in tarot and refreshing my perspective. Kudos!
Great deck, lovely art, good book, terrible quality. I ended up trimming off the borders, since they were already super messed up -- partly because they were stuck together upon arrival and partly because some of them were poorly cut. It looked as though whatever was used to cut them out was dull, which has caused the edges of some of the wand court cards to become frayed. Also, several of the cards were scratched on the faces, and the eight of coins had a little divot taken out of the face of the actual card, which I had to color in with a dark pen.

It looks fine if you don't look too closely, and I actually love using it now. But I am not pleased with the fact that I had no choice but to put in hours of work to get a deck that I am happy with, specifically due to the poor condition it arrived in.
I've tried to delve into Tarot with 3 other decks, and never quite felt comfortable with it. This is the perfect deck for me. The art is beautiful and the symbols are clear for interpretation. The book that comes with it is by far the most user-friendly and relate-able one that I've come across. It's an excellent introduction, and so far my readings have been spot on. It really makes it fun, and takes something that otherwise feels intimidating and makes you feel like it's meant for you. I would definitely recommend thoroughly reading the book prior to trying to do readings, it will make you feel a lot more confident.
The artwork, in my opinion, is beautiful for the majority of the deck (the border is a bit tacky, but meh). The images and meanings work well together, consistently- especially since the author wrote about their reasoning behind each theme and what each meaning meant for them (although some more than others). It has helped, in this, to point out layers of the images that first glance had me missing. This is THE deck that helped me learn Tarot- previous decks had been a struggle to get through. There was too much guessing, memorization, or multiple/contrary listed meanings shoved into a single card. The depth of this deck- with every part of it given -reason- and purpose makes this a treasured deck for me. It's very clear that this was a creation from the author's POV, but without constricting any one else making use of it.

The deck shuffles well enough for me. Although it looks like the sort of card stock that -may- peel on the edges, it hasn't yet after all this time (it's been almost a year since purchase for this review) and multiple usage. Mine, also, arrived without previous mentioned damage (sticking together, chips, scratches, or blurry printing), so it may be just a matter of luck.
This is a beautiful deck and the card stock is nice and sturdy. My first reading with it was a little too on the nose! All that shuffling and I still ended up with three Wands in a past, present, future reading? Yikes. I'd definitely recommend this deck to a beginning tarot reader, a tarot collector, or someone who's a fan of The Raven Cycle.
I bought these cards for Maggie Stiefvater's art rather than any interest in tarot. On that level, they were a good purchase, although I found the orange borders hideous and distracting. Almost any other color would've been better, surely.

The booklet inside about her thought process was interesting to read.

I wish the included box for holding the cards fit them better. I don't like that they rattle around in it so much.
Having read the book series this deck is connected to, I really get the reasons behind her reasons for some of the images. Typically card stock for this company but good thick guide book.
The box these cards came in is very nice, as is the book. The cards however are so thin and flimsy that I had to take extra care not to bend them when shuffling. The art itself is lovely, with a softly muted fuzzy feel to them. I probably won’t use this deck often, but it’s a nice addition For the tarot card collector.
