The Wartville Wizard ebook

by Don Madden

I used this book in my classroom to assist students in understanding the concept of our environment and how to save it. The student's loved the story line and the pictures were great. There were lots of follow up activities to use with this book and the student's really remembered what happened and applied it to their lives. I would highly recommend this as a fun family read as well as a classroom resource for elementary school or students with special needs.

It’s time for the Poppins Book Nook project hosted by Enchanted Homeschooling Mom. I’m happy to be participating again this month. The Wartville Wizard is a story of an old man who gets fed up with all the litterbugs in his town. He creates a spell that sends back each piece of trash to the person who dropped it. The townspeople begin walking around with trash stuck to them and learn an important lesson about littering.

Don Madden is a well-known illustrator of children’s books. Wartville Wizard is the second book he has written. Don lives in Ballston Spa, New York. School Library Journal. I read this book to a second-grade class. They loved it! The message it gives about taking care of the environment is great

Great book for teaching about littering and personal responsibility. Ties it nicely with an environment or service unit. Fun tip: After reading the story, I have a student lay on butcher paper, and we draw their silhouette. Then we cut it out and for the next couple of weeks, we tape any trash left in the room to the outline. Really brings home the idea of how much trash they are leaving behind.

My mom used to read this to me. I read it to my nanny kids and they love it! Still a classic.

This is a delightful, fun, rather bizarre story, which really gets the point across about littering! We all can benefit from that knowledge to make us more aware of protecting and aking care of our environment. Good for a wide age range 4 - 8 or 9 years old....

very cute story with a great message about recycling important to teach kids about it!

My daughter loved this book as a kid. Now 29, we had to get a copy for her children. Love it!!

I remember this being read to me (only once!) when I was a kid. It was a memorable enough story to stick with me 25 years later. I bought this for my own kids (8, 5, 3, and 1) for Earth Day and they enjoyed it as well so it was fun sharing that with them.
