When Seymour Simon and Smithsonian come together to work on a book .

When Seymour Simon and Smithsonian come together to work on a book you know it’s something worth checking out. Through this book, children gain a better understanding of how they fit into the worl. ven learning their complete address. It shows one way of looking at how the universe came to be with the Big Bang. I liked this book because the graphics are amazing and it gave real-life photographs taken by NASA. I would use this in a 4th grade classroom when they discuss space and solar-system.

The brutality and ugliness of metal. The minimal beauty of ambient electronic music. It occurred to me that these two seemingly disparate styles compliment each other so well. This is the kind of music I wanted to be making. Something along the lines of JESU. But I wanted the heavy element to be slower, uglier, and more hypnotic. I wanted the ambience lifted right off of a BRIAN ENO album. The songs were tracked and assembled by PHILIP SHAW BOVA at Bovasound Studios in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Once again Seymour has created a wonderful book for children. I think that as long as you are aware this book is one aiming to bring a child into the world of science, and understand that there will be challenges the first read through, your child should be fine.

The flimsy paperback series is a great strength - and it obviously keeps cost down so we can build a section on our child's bookshelf for a reasonable price. Perhaps a flimsy paperback is not the correct phrase, rather a well crafted paperback book it is.

Let you child encounter concepts such as: asteroids, the solar system, hydrogen, photosphere, chromospheres, coronagraphs, sun spots, and much more . . . Don't expect the child, especially younger ones, to grasp all of this all at once but use this attractive book to introduce them to such vocabulary/concepts. As they grow older, as my daughter has, she goes back to these books from time to time and at the age of 8 can now read these through with a better understanding due to repeated exposure to the books. Let's be honest, go ask a non-astronomy oriented adult what a coronagraph is and see what they say. Ask them to describe the chromosphere and see what they come up with - bottom line, 1) we can probably all learn from this, and 2) if an adult may come across new concepts there is a good chance children will.

I bought this originally for a gifted 3 year old and recently purchased a copy for a first grade science teacher. Like all of the Seymour Simon books I have seen to date, it is factually correct, well-written, and full of helpful facts and full-color photos to engage children. Highly recommended for curious children ages 4 and up!

This is a good book but it was written when Pluto was still considered to be a major planet, which makes me wonder which other outdated info it may contain.

Wonderful Simon books on the studies of earth and beyond. I find his writings what I like and that is enough knowledge without getting into techie things. The book on the sun gave me more insight and that was what I was looking for.

We have this whole series, beautiful pictures, and very informative. A good grow with me book, also good for reports, and projects.

This book is nice and informative but please be aware that it is aimed at 6-8 year olds. It is a childrens book. It does have very large print but it is a flimsy and a very thin paperback.
Good reading
