Methodical Bible Study book. It is primarily a book on hermeneutics or Biblical interpretation. The author, Professor Robert Traina, taught at Asbury Theological Seminary, a fine, conservative Methodist seminary located in Wilmore, Kentucky. The book assists the reader in learning how to approach the Bible without presuppositions. In other words, Dr. Traina trains a student of the Bible to look at it afresh, as if for the first time ever. This book isn't for everyone. I first read it in seminary and found it quite engaging.

Following up Robert Traina's classic Methodical Bible Study, this book introduces the practice of inductive Bible study to a new generation of students, pastors, and church leaders. The authors, two seasoned educators with over sixty combined years of experience in the classroom, offer guidance on adopting an inductive posture and provide step-by-step instructions on how to do inductive Bible study.

Inductive Bible Study is an updated and expanded version of Robert Traina’s Methodical Bible Study (1952), the book that popularized the method that has become known as inductive Bible study. In its own day, Methodical Bible Study impacted many noted evangelicals, not least Eugene Peterson, translator of The Message. As Peterson writes in his foreword to Inductive Bible Study, his firsthand exposure to Traina’s method in seminary transformed him and shaped his entire ministry (xi). This sequel to Traina’s classic recasts this tried and true method for the twenty-first century

I have been looking for a book that teaches a Bible study method I could use to start doing a deep study of the Bible book by book. I've bought several modern books about the inductive method of study, but each of them spoon feeds you questions, terms, or charts to fill out. This book took two readings, taking notes, adding tabs, making an outline, and using a dictionary to help me understand it. I laughed when I realized Dr. Traina had forced me to do an inductive study of his book!

I am taking time with my first study: the Gospel of John. I made a handwritten copy of the text double-spaced so there is room for notes. This wasn't recommended in the book, but I wanted to become very familiar with the text. I am in the process now of using a dictionary to make a glossary of words I highlighted. Tomorrow I will move on the next stage of observations.

The information seems to be as other bible study books. I did not find anything new from other books.

This is a well-thought-out and detailed book about the inductive Bible study method. That is, it helps you make observations and ask interpretive questions of the Biblical text and helps you find answers to those questions within the text itself. I have had to read it for a seminary class. It is not the most exciting book in the world - sometimes the observations can be fairly obvious, and there are a lot of footnotes and some repetition. But this does not take anything away from its importance, which I think it has. Because to me very few things are more important than knowing how to study your Bible. One of my favorite things in the book is the author's sample of how to make observations and ask interpretive questions related to the text, using Psalm 23 as his case study. The insights you will gain from this sample "walk through" are amazing; it will probably change how you read the Scriptures. So be warned. It's good, but it's boring at times too! It's good to have a class or an outlet where you can practice these concepts where it is not all conceptual.

The book is basically a new book. Traina has some very helpful tips for reading thr bible. They apply to biblical, students , laymen and anyone who desire to get more from the biblical text by doing inductive bible study . Readers should let the text speak for it self rather imposing or implying or assumptions.

written for college professors and is hard for the layperson to read.

Though the book is dated (recognizable by some of the language that is out of style), it is a very practical tool for teaching people how to study the Bible.

The best book on the topic!
I read this book half way, but if I were to give to someone else, you can be assured that you get lost along the way...read at your own risk.
