I absolutely love the Left Behind Series. I'm behind on the times as far as reading it goes, though my mom used to have the whole series and I just never got around to borrowing them. I've read almost all of the books now. I'm on Kingdom Come and I only have one of the books that was written after the series. Still need to get the other two. I really like how the authors write the stories and it's very riveting. They write a lot based on information they've deciphered in the Bible and one of the characters often quotes, more in some books than others, where they're gathering their own ideas about what's going to happen. They pick quotes from the Bible and more or less make them into plain English for other characters who don't really understand. It's very enlightening.

What I'm reading

Have you heard of the Left Behind series? Silly question. Of course you have. You're reading about it right now.

I've finally decided I'd read it and "kindled" the book. Mistake. I probably should have taken it out of the library. Think about this. There are twelve-thirteen? books in the series. Each one costs between 5 and 10 dollar a piece. Figuring the usual $10 kindle price, if i were to buy twelve of these, it would (will) run me $120

For a book. That isn't a masterpiece or a piece of antiquity. So what's the draw for people to lay aside their hard-earned and possibly disappearing cash?

It's not that well written. (Sorry Timothy LaHaye) It's simplistic and the characters are not well developed. Plus, redundancies! Don't even get me started.
If they cut all the repetition, they'd probably have a long "The Stand" type novel.

But, the story about the end of times, the coming of the Anti-Christ and the Tribulation; and, it has me hooked.

So my point? Despite all it's deficiencies, it's a darned good story. And, by golly, it's brought my attention back to my bible. (even if it is to Revelations)

A DARN GOOD STORY It's the key every time.

Cheers

I was a big fan of horror novels and movies and didn't think religious novels could be very interesting, especially ones with a fundamentalist message. But this liberal is eating dirt and buying one after another. Soul Harvest is about the conversion of millions after the Rapture. A converted rabbi and scholar is beaming lessons from a hidden computer which the frustrated Antichrist can't find. There is all sorts of excitement as the Christians try to avoid the forces of the Global Community. I don't want to give too much away. Just start reading with the first prequel, The Rising: The Antichrist is Born or with the first book in the series, Left Behind: A Novel of Earth's Last Days.

Soul Harvest is a great take on those left behind getting God's 2nd chance at salvation. LaHaye and Jenkins did an excellent characterization take on all the hero's and villain. The only part of the series that I do not like is ability of the authors to go from one translation to another. I appreciated that when they were talking about "the two witnesses" they used the KJV translation. When quoting other versions I found many verses missing. As a fiction novel they did real well at bringing the horrors to life, I don't believe that there truly is a way to describe what the "Left Behind" will face and LaHaye and Jenkins had a good take on the matter. I recommend this series to everyone.

After finishing "Nicolae", I was nearly ready to give up the series. I'm glad to say that "Soul Harvest" has helped keep my footing on the story. The aftermath of the prophesized global earthquake and it's effects on our heros made this the most involving read. It seems the authors finally have faith that their readers will remember who's who, because they avoid the tedious recapping of characters, and how everyone came to be a member of the Tribulation force. The other plus for me was the minimized involvement of the severely underdeveloped female characters in the book. From the first this has been one of the most unbelievable aspects of the series. The courtships of Buck and Chloe, and Rayford and Amanda seemed so wooden and forced that it's hard to connect with them. Feminists would have a field day with lines like Chloe's,:"Don't parent me, Buck. Seriously I don't have a problem submitting to you because I know how much you love me. I'm willing to obey you even when you're wrong." Maybe in 1950! However, those complaints aside, the book is much more enjoyable overall with a clever twist that catches you off guard, some new characters who may be around for a bit, and enough action to keep the pace at top notch. Here's hoping "Apollyon" is as good.

Each book is a little more action packed than the last. It makes it difficult to put it down! Although I would refer this series to anyone, religious or not, I do have to admit it has opened my mind to the Bible and what is written in it. I find myself with all these questions that I have deep desire to find answers to...why are Jews considered the "chosen ones?" Which religion is this series based on and what are the differences between all these religions that seem so similar?...and so much more.

Soul Harvest was action packed and engrossing. It was filled with deadly hail, devastating earthquakes, balls of fire, meteors, and more. You won't want to put it down. Well worth your time.

Although I rate the cd version of Soul Harvest a five, I was extremely disappointed in the merchant Hastings. Due to a busy schedule of teaching, keeping up with 2 teenagers, and running a farm, I was unable to listen to the cd's until after their 30 day guarantee expired. The 10 disc set was packaged incorrectly. The last 2 discs were from a different book. Now I am stuck with an incomplete copy of the book. Hastings did invite me to make more purchases from them when they refused to rectify the problem. Fat chance. Buyer beware if you have a hectic schedule like mine.
