Thought-provoking and entertaining faith-based fiction for sure. In A Tailor-Made Bride, Karen Witemeyer presents a well-paced story of evolving insight, loving acceptance, and a humor that takes the reader from knowing chuckles to out-and-out laughter.

To Win Her Heart book. Like all of Karen Witemeyer's books that I have read so far, this one had great characters and both protagonists learned important things during their relationship.

Witemeyer's hard-hitting Christian historical romance skillfully incorporates Jesus' parables of the prodigal son and the adulteress' rock-toting accusers into her characters' struggles with redemption, worthiness, and new beginnings. A commendable addition to the genre. Witemeyer is a talented author who plumbs the heart and soul of her characters while keeping a smile on the lips of the reader.

Chloe is here, ain’t she?. Violet’s question snapped Eden out of her fog. Yes urse. She stepped back and swung the door wide. The woman swept past her, and Eden had to admit that she hid her identity well. Just like Chloe, her face was scrubbed clean of paint, her dress was modest and well tailored, even her hair was done up in a fashionable chignon.

SENSUALITY RATING: NO Profanity; NO Euphemistic "code words"; "SWEET" storyline with a kiss or two.

GENRE: Inspirational; Romance; Western

SETTING: Spencer, Texas 19th century

CENTRAL FEMALE CHARACTER: EDEN - Loves God; does not believe in violence of any kind; loves literature; running from a relationship gone bad.

CENTRAL MALE CHARACTER: LEVI - Loves God; built like a mountain; has a lisp. His challenge: to let go of the guilt from his past sins.

SYNOPSIS: Eden wants respect as a member of the city council. The town Pastor is the only person that knows that Levi is fresh out of prison. Together Eden and Levi struggle with instant attraction and their own little demons.

WHAT I LIKED: 1) Discussion of literature via notes. 2) Story-line message: It is more important to care for the needs of others than to worry about your reputation.

WHAT I DID NOT LIKE: I take notes when reading a book. No negative notations therefore no complaints.

OVERALL RATING: (5) stars. What makes a book stand out? Having an author that drops story-line bread crumbs. A snippet of humor always helps.

Looking for a sweet gentle romance where the lead guy actually knows how to treat a woman like a gentleman should? Then you are most likely going to enjoy this historical fiction! Levi Grant hasn't always done things right. In fact, we first meet him fresh out of jail for manslaughter, making a fresh start as the blacksmith in the town of Spencer, Texas. Recommended by his chaplain to the local pastor after being converted in jail, Levi knows that at some point his past may catch up with him but first he determines to make a good impression on the local folks. Alas, he has another problem, a speech impediment. He cannot pronounce the letter "s". This results in him using different words and avoiding all words that start with "S" thus sometimes coming across as being a little slow when quite the opposite is true!

In Levis' first meeting with Eden Spencer who runs the town library as well as being the founder's daughter, she asks him to call her Miss Spencer. When he continues to call her "Ma'am" she thinks he has forgotten her name. As their friendship blossoms and Levi, who loves to read, visits the library every day in his lunch break, Eden realizes that not is all as it appears. They start discussing the books he is reading via letter. What will happen when Levi tells Eden all about his past in a letter? Will she reject him? Will his heart be broken?

This is a very tender and beautiful romance. Yes, it is a little predictable but if you are looking for an easy, very Christian based, historical romance then I highly recommend this one. Eden is a very spirited lady who is having to spurn the attentions of the local sheriff. She is taught many lessons including not to be a hypocrite when a certain daughter of a lady of ill repute needs help. Levi is tempted to let his fighting come to the surface again and at one point is truly put to the test. Will he survive?

After completing his sentence for the unintentional crime that derailed his youthful plans for fame and fortune, Levi Grant looks to start over in the town of Spencer, Texas. Spencer needs a blacksmith, a trade he learned at his father's knee, and he needs a place where no one knows his past.
Eden Spencer has sworn off men, choosing instead to devote her time to the lending library she runs in the town her father founded. When a mountain-sized stranger walks through her door and asks to borrow a book, she's reluctant to trust him. Yet as the mysteries of the town's new blacksmith unfold, Eden discovers hidden depths in him that tempt her heart.
Eden believes she's finally found a man of honor and integrity. But when the truth about Levi's prodigal past comes to light, can this tarnished hero find a way to win back the librarian's affections?
I have to say that after reading this book it has quickly become a favorite of mine. I quickly fell in love with Levi within just the first few chapters. The author did a good job of drawing you into feeling his failures and his longing to make his life over into something good. He was humongous in size, and has suffered so much for the mistakes that he has made. He wants to be the man he was meant to be and after turning his life over to God he hopes he gets that chance to prove himself. He has a speech impediment that often causes people to wonder if he is just a big man who just might not be that smart. He keeps his words slow, careful and few. Even Eden wonders at first about his intelligence.
The sheriff of the town was a swaggering bully, written just perfect to make you hate him. He's also trouble just waiting to happen. He has his eye on Eden and seems to think he has the right to push her around like he owns her. She has refused his marriage proposal time and again, but he just refuses to hear it. He continues to act jealous and possessive and that puts Levi right in his sights as a rival; a dangerous place for Levi to be. Levi has a past that had violence in it and Eden has an aversion to violence which it makes another difference between them. They were already two unlikely people to get together. A refined well to do petite librarian and a massive, unrefined, works with his hands blacksmith. Loved the two of them anyway and was rooting for a HEA for them.
God and their faith played an important part of the story and I give the story the highest rating I can.
