I found this at my local library and fell in love. The recipes are easy and short not full pages long of ingridients and directions. As a Mom I want to make things for my kids I didn't always have the luxury of growing up but I also know that time is precious meaning every minute away from my kids means minutes stacking up for messy disasters, seriously, elaborate cooking directions are not a mother's friend in the face of spending time with their kids and this book solves that issue.

I was really thrilled to snatch this up for free. It's full of family-friendly, easy to follow recipes. There's a great variety in this book, and I especially liked that it was tailored to MOPS moms. The only thing that would have made it better is pictures!

There are some great recipes in this book - great for families. We like it because it's everyday food, not too fancy which is what I was looking for to feed my 4 boys.

I love it! It has many good and useful recipes.

I love this cookbook. We spilled sauce all over it & are buying a replacement. The very best pulled pork I've ever had was made with this cookbook's slow cooker pulled pork recipe. The whole book is good & filled with a wide range of easy family friendly recipes. I like the author's introductory remarks for each chapter too :)

Here is the biography of the author:

Leigh Oliver Vickery is creator and founder of Leigh Oliver's, a specialty "fun food" company with numerous products on the market in at least twenty-five states and grocery chains, including Whole Foods Market and Costco. She is the former food editor of the Tyler Morning Telegraph in Tyler, Texas, and now blogs at [...]

In the Introduction, Leigh tells her readers what they do in her family's home:
In our home, we try to sit down together to eat at least four nights a week. Yes, it takes work to get everyone's schedule to somehow align and to get food on the table. And yes, many nights it doesn't work out as well as I imagined.
But we try, and I have seen that the more often we make time to eat together, the better our family relationships become. We have learned how to work together (when the boys are hungry enough, they don't mind helping!), we have learned better table manners, and we have learned so much about our boys' thoughts and ideas we may never have known. (p. 11)

I prepared the `MOPS Mom: Slow Cooker Pulled Pork' recipe the other day. It was delicious! Here is the introduction to the recipe:

Heidi Johnson grew up in Texas helping her mom in the kitchen. But it wasn't until she left home that she learned how to really cook on her own. "I learned to cook from my mom, a cookbook called The Joy of Cooking, and the internet," Heidi said. "My husband, Clay, loves that I like to cook."
Heidi and Clay have a young son, and their second baby is on the way. This favorite recipe is something she created by combining several other recipes into one. "The sauce is my dad's, the spice and mustard rub is from Cook's Illustrated, and the rest came from some slow cooker barbecue recipes on the internet." (p. 166)

Here are the ingredients from this recipe:

* 1 (5-7 lb) pork butt
* ¼ cup prepared yellow mustard
* 2 tsp. liquid smoke
* 2 Tbs. ground black pepper
* 2 Tbs. smoked (or regular) paprika
* 2 Tbs. sugar
* 2 tsp. salt
* 1 tsp. cayenne pepper
* 1 cup beef broth
* 2 cups Barbecue Sauce
(p. 166)

I plan on trying many more of the recipes in this book! It is always exciting to have more meal options. It is really easy to get into a repetitious meal rut! I look forward to sitting down with my husband, Fred, to decide what to try next!

This book is available August 2012 at your favorite bookseller from Revell a division of Baker Publishing Group.
Food Family Style is primarily a cookbook written for MOPS, which turns out to be Moms of Preschoolers. It's been years since I was a MOP; now I'm a GOB (Grandmother of Baby). But GOBs have to eat, too, so I happily agreed to review this cookbook. I assumed that any cookbook written for mothers (I cannot continue to say MOPs) would contain easy recipes with normal ingredients and I was not disappointed. Just because we're slightly middle-aged doesn't mean that we've developed into the Galloping Gourmet and Julia Child. As the principle cook in the house, I still appreciate simple recipes, and as the wife of a veggie-hater (apparently some people never outgrow that) I am always on the outlook for ways to slip those veggies over on him. To be honest, cooking for my husband is like cooking for a gray-haired five-year old. But enough about us. On to the cookbook!

We sampled several recipes and loved all of them. Now, this cookbook does not have pictures, and neither does my review, and I suspect it's for the same reason. These recipes, while very good, are not what I consider Kodak moments. Some foods just don't "snap" well. They're real foods for real people. I consider that a compliment, BTW.

One of the first recipes we tried was the Cajun Pork Chops on p. 174. Very good, very simple, and the really cool thing is the note that says the seasoning is also great for fish fillets.

With the chops, I served the Bacon Squash Saute on p. 196. Summer squash is one of my favorite vegetables, and really, who doesn't love bacon?!? Enough said.

From there, we went to the Honey-Lemonade Chicken on p. 135. It tasted good, but Jorge wanted it to "look" different. I don't know; I'll play with that one until it looks to suit him, because it was SUPER easy. HINT: I used Wal-Mart's Great Value brand frozen lemonade concentrate to cut costs.

With the chicken, we had the Easy Green Beans on p. 202. This was a winner because Jorge doesn't like green beans, and he ate them happily. So, if you have a picky five year-old or a middle-aged man with a bad diet, bookmark this page.

And last but certainly not least, my absolute favorite vegetable is asparagus. So, when I saw the recipe on p. 210 for Roasted Balsamic Asparagus, I had to try it. I'm going to post it here, as a teaser for the book.

ROASTED BALSAMIC ASPARAGUS

1 lb. fresh asparagus, cleaned and trimmed

4 tsp. olive oil

1 Tbs. balsamic vinegar

1/2 tsp. salt

1/8 tsp. ground black pepper

Preheat oven to 425 F. Line a large baking sheet with foil and arrange asparagus in a single layer on the sheet. Drizzle olive oil over asparagus and roll gently to coat. Roast for 15-20 minutes, until tender. Toss roasted asparagus with balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper; serve immediately. Serves 6.

Can you tell I loved reviewing this cookbook? It's 5 stars, or 5 wooden spoons, or something like that.
