Back in New York City, I haunted book shops and the Library for an American "translation" of PENNE AL RADICCHIO E PANCETTA. A friend found it for us in "Trattoria Cooking" and gave us the book as a gift.
I cannot tell you how many times this easy-to-use, non-intimidating volume has saved dinner. The book is loaded with simple, authentic, family-style recipes. Every single one I've tried has turned out perfectly the first time, including the penne which is still one of my favorites. Caggiano does not drown her collection with overripe prose. Instead, she explains in one or two paragraphs why she has chosen the recipe and the region and specific trattoria it comes from. She also suggests the best wine to go with dinner. No glossy magazine photos either. Just good food. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

We have cherished this cookbook for over a dozen years~ have made most of the recipes and highly recommend this
cookbook. Our family lived in Italy for 7 1/2 years and this cookbook has become almost a family bible~ we have
taped photos inside the book of our family at different trattorias in Napoli, Toscana, Venezia, etc. Lots of wine notes
and comments next to recipes we love. And there are so many fabulous recipes! Also, great suggestions for restaurants
and trattorias throughout Italy. Biba captures the spirit of Italy, the passion for food and wine and the
inspiration that comes during a truly great meal with family and friends. The info in the cookbook is thorough and
helpful, especialy if you are attempting your first risotto or polenta dish. Great pasta recipes, and most are so
easy to do. I love the various recipes for chicken also. My most loved and used cookbook in a large collection.

My original copy finally fell apart. Annotated and held together with tape and rubber bands it will take a place in my kitchen archives. The time had come to buy a replacement. I can say I have all of Biba Caggiano's books and some I like better than others.

I purchase this book because I had one of the original prints from maybe 20-25 years ago but unfortunately have since misplaced it due to moving. I was trying to remember a very specific recipe from that book and then found that I could get it here on Amazon.
