I bought this and another Unshelved collection as a Christmas present for my husband, and he was delighted.

The kids love this, particularly the older kids in our house. Dewey's attitude sees him through the day in a way that most folks can only hope for. Even when dealing with the harsh realities of things like job layoffs and unexpected pregnancies, the storytelling remains light, the humor deftly deceptive.

Great collection of one of my favorite comics!

This was a great read and I will seek out more of it from these cartoonists. I assumed when I picked it up that it was a graphic novel - for that was the section where I found it, after all. But it is a collection of comic strips, a strip I had never seen before. But it is very good: sometimes laugh out loud funny, often more subtle or wry in its jokes, but almost always intelligent and insightful. After reading this, I am almost amazed no one has done a strip about libraries before. But I suppose it is an unlikely setting requiring a fertile imagination to keep it fresh. (Which this strip has in its two creators.) And of course, even some of the harsher realities of the state of libraries and reading in general (and providing service to an increasingly rude public) are alternately satirized, held up for gentle laughs, or more rarely, treated seriously. I recommend it enthusiastically, especially for book lovers.
