In Lana Citron's online photos she looks like a true romantic. She has also written many novels so I can see why she is so interested in every detail about kissing. She begins her book with some dictionary definitions of kissing and then proceeds to explain kissing in intricate detail.

This is not really a totally romantic book as at times it can be very intellectual as well. You may be interested to know that when kissing you are burning six calories a minute. You may also be interested to know how to say kiss in many different languages.

While entertaining this book did contain some shocking facts. I would not leave this book around for children to read. Like for instance Napoleon says some rather naughty things to his wife in a letter.

I did however enjoy the poems, quotes, song titles and information on plays that contain kissing as a theme. This book also brought back fond memories of my life especially one instance where I tried strawberry juice as a lipstick substitute. This book actually explains how lipstick was actually a symbol of female rebellion. The discussion on lipstick reminded me of how my grandmother always used to remind us to put on lipstick before we left the house.

It is interesting that while I was finishing reading this book my husband was watching "Airborne" where everyone is kissing at the end. This book also gave me some ideas for movies I want to watch. I also want to look up some poets that were mentioned in this book. So overall the book was really fun to read and is quite the education in regards to kissing.

If you love listening to music at the same time as reading I can recommend: The Kiss. It is
very romantic.

This is a cute little book about nearly everything having to do with kisses whether they be erotic, sensual, or strictly platonic. Ms. Citron certainly has a love for the subject as borne out in the pages, as well as the author bio. and preface, between these painted upper and lower covers. And yet, like a passionless kiss, I find this book very much lacking. For starters, you should take the author's admittedly plagiarized preface at its word when she says that this is not a book to be read from cover to cover. The structure is very fluid and confusing at times compounded by the fact that each little section or fact is titled by "[fill in the blank] Kiss," which can make following ideas in this book very screwy. It is very much a compendium, a collection of odd and interesting facts about kisses and kissing and has no other theme guiding it. The other problem is that she is, perhaps, a little too exhaustive on the subject. Though the red cover with a large, pink X collage would suggest that this is some "naughty" little book, there is a lot of attention given to kisses of a non-sexual nature, like greeting kisses on the cheeks or hands. So, those looking for love are looking in the wrong place. But, there are still many great quotes, poems, and facts about kisses that make this worth picking up. But, like an adulterous kiss, don't indulge yourself in reading this book for too long. Instead, content yourself with a few small nibbles and pecks when the mood suits you.

I admit it, I'm a fan of kissing. Who isn't, right? Well, according to A Compendium of Kisses, by Lana Citron, men are not as fond of kissing as women are. Who knew? This is the kind of salacious information that can be found in this adorable, well-researched new book, along with everything else anyone could possibly want to know about kissing - the history of kissing, the biology of kissing, the chemistry of kissing, the longest kiss, the most controversial kiss, the best movie kiss, kissing in literature, kissing in poetry, as well as the definition of every type of kiss imaginable, including my favorite, "The Love Kiss."

Bad kissers, good kissers, wet kissers - I've had them all. It's awfully fun to read a book that describes kissing with as much enthusiasm as I feel for it. One of the most interesting facts in the book is that studies have shown that women pick a mate based on kissing ability - I know I did. Did you know that the suffragette's accentuated their lips, leaving open the possibility of what a kiss might be like with them to express their rebellion? There are hundreds of such interesting facts in this almanac that honors "the kiss!"

If you are hankering for an interesting book that also will look terrific on your coffee table, (the cover is love-red and it is a very cute, "gifty" size), grab hold of A Compendium of Kisses. The book will occupy a special place on my bookshelf. It would also make a great gift!

I really adore the idea of this book. The author takes a look at the kiss in all of it's forms, formats, definitions, history, actions, technique, and how it is an integral part of our romantic lives. I enjoyed that I could read the book in spurts, absorbing facts and figures and historic accounts of such a simple, yet poignant act. It's not a book you would necessarily sit down in one reading and go cover to cover with, but the details, statistics, origins, trivia, advice...it's all entertaining and informative. Some have complained about the layout of the data and how disjointed it feels. I didn't find that to be the case at all. Rather, I love how I could pick the book up, turn to any page, and find something fascinating from the author. Great research and all together a wonderful book that I'll keep around for a long time to come.

This amusing volume collects all you'll ever need to know about kisses, and it does it in a light and amusing way. This is THE source on kissing whenever you're looking for: world records relating to kissing, a description of kissing bishop's rings, pope's rings, or holy books; kissing-themed poetry, art, songs, and literature; the science of kissing; or my personal favorite, kissing statistics.

The book is divided into four sections - anatomy, geography, history, and cultural - but it's really a miscellany and can be opened at any page to some short and interesting tidbit about kissing. Enjoy!
