2/1 game forcing (Two-over-one game forcing) is a bidding system in modern contract bridge structured around the following responses to a one-level opening bid: a non-jump response in a new suit at the one-level is constructive and forcing for one round, a non-jump response in a new suit at the two-level is forcing to game, and. a 1NT response is forcing for one round and indicates insufficient values to immediately commit to game or bid a suit at the one-level.

This book is aimed at Two-over-one or Acol partnerships who are looking for ways to make their game and slam bidding more accurate and at the same time to increase opportunities to bid early and pre-emptively. Bringing together in one volume a large variety of ideas pertinent to Precision and Pre-emption, this is an invaluable reference for all enthusiastic and knowledgeable bridge players.

The author has boldly taken on the task of bridging Precision, pre-empton, Two-over-One, and ACOL. This is not a mean undertaking, since many bridge players--lacking imagination--prefer to adhere to the accustomed (and comfortable) rigidity of their formative ways of playing bridge. The author has had the benefit of eclectically garnering the best from both the British ACOL and American Two-over-One Systems, with the hope of providing an amalgam that will lessen differences and bond strengths between bridge players. This is a valiant quest that is worthy of our attention, since we have everything to gain and nothing to lose from it. Case-in-Point: How many good bridge players are familiar with The Zar Point Theory? Very few, I would dare say. Well, read pages 85-93 and learn something about Zar Petrov (Who is not listed in "The Official Encyclopedia of Bridge!) and his formulation of this approach to bridge. I recommend this paperback book to those who are serious about the game of bridge; it is not a book for "Mama-Papa" bridge players.

I thought the book was rambling and difficult to read, but I found many excellent things to consider as I picked my way though a lot of stuff I didn't care to know about. I think this is truly "a bridge too far"; too ambitious for one book. But the little nuggets tucked inside like the Rule of 9 and Zar points and TAB (Trump asking bids) are more than enough to make it worth while. Certainly got me thinking, I'm glad I bought the book and glad I read it. The author is obviously very knowledgeable, next time I hope he writes three books, each with better focus.
