Marion Eleanor Zimmer Bradley (June 3, 1930 – September 25, 1999) was an American author of fantasy, historical fantasy, science fiction, and science fantasy novels, and is best known for the Arthurian fiction novel The Mists of Avalon, and the Darkover series. While she is noted for her feminist perspective in her writing,:28–29 her popularity has been posthumously marred by multiple accusations against her of child sexual abuse and rape by two of her children, Mark and Moira Greyland, and others.

I loved Marion Zimmer Bradley's "Mists of Avalon". This book is loosely based on her mythology, but since Marion died shortly after "Mists of Avalon" was published, most of the other books attributed to her were written by Diana Paxson. I have read other books by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Diana Paxson has done an admirable job of writing in the same style and coordinating with the Mrs. Bradley's world boundaries to bring to life a previous era to the times of her other books. Atlanta is a reality in this book; so are the tenets of a religion, the visionary paths, and the human ways and quirks of its followers. May 24, 2019 Katy Coghlan rated it it was ok.

The Three Towers, sheathed in gold, had stretched toward the sky for a thousand years. Almost as venerable were the Seven Arches, in whose weathered sides students strove to trace hieroglyphs long since worn away.

Whatever
Mythology, magic, adventure, power, metaphysics, love, friendship, duty, honor, healing, survival, the art of war, deep philosophy, the symbols of the sun wheel and the star stone...
Whatever your age, there is something for you in this book.
I loved the sense of community building between the priesthood from Atlantis and the natives from the Thor, bound to the same Mother Goddess of Light, known under a different name.

All the books from Marion Zimmer Bradley can be considered "the mother lore" of inspiration for many Y.A. Indy authors. Granted, her books cost quite a substantial amount of investment among all the free Kindle books in the genre proposed out there.
But something is sure: I read my collection at least once a year as for the first time, discovering a side of the story I did not quite grasp the year before.

Marion Zimmer Bradley writes from years of knowledge and experience, about the human experience, and about the power of myths.

I am a huge fan of the series. I have read Mists of Avalon more times than I care to admit. This book however, was very slow....lots of names, with no real base of their personas in order to invest who they were in my mind. Basically, getting to know the characters was boring. I will keep going with the next book. I feel I have much to gain in knowledge that would tie characters throughout the entire series.

It was a bit on the boring side. I was glad to finish it. It does a great job explaining how and why people from Atlantis went to England. This is the second book in the series the first being "The Fall of Atlantis".

Great book that teases fans of Avalon & Atlantis, myth & anthropology, culture & fantasy. A competent mythologizing of the movement of peoples in the ancient Mediterranean.

Ancestors of Avalon picks up where "The Fall of Atlantis" leaves off. This is the book that gives more insight to the lives of the ancients in Atlantis, and the actual devestation and destruction of their lands. The story then moves to the Atlantic Ocean, upon the ships of the fleeing Atlanteans (and other Sea Kingdom peoples).

Following different groups of refugees, you find yourself immersed in ancient Cornwall, Glastonbury (Avalon), and Stonehenge (before it was built) from 4,000 years ago. The natives that are encountered are very interesting, and as much as possible the anthropological/archeological evidences as we know them are held in check with the story. The raising of Stonehenge is very enchanting, along with the building of the spiral path around the Tor. This book is a fun read into an ancient and magical past.

This is book #2 in "The Mists of Avalon" series, to be followed with "The Forest House."

This is a magnificent book. The writer seems to have been there, for her pages are full of "veracity". She manages to "connect" real history to fantastic arguments. The book is about a previous civilization of Avalon, Morgaine and therefore Avalon are the "leftovers" of it. This is a precious book, in my opinion , the writer had her own version of Ancient knowledge and ancient people that lived in today's G.B. "The ship is still there" Morgaine says... now, it's up to you to understand what the writer means.

I don't think Ms. Zimmer Bradley's name should have been used on this novel. It doesn't feel at all like any of her Avalon books. It's not bad, but it doesn't take me to the same world.
I have read Mists of Avalon more times than remember and enjoyed it each and every time. It is unfortunately, glaringly obvious that it is not MZB who is writing this story. It is an interesting back story, but moves painfully slow...even through the "action" parts. Worth a try but I would not read again nor recommend. However, if you haven't read the MISTS OF AVALON, don't hesitate and order now.
