Indifferently, he shattered a diamond of incalculable worth and fashioned from its fragments tools with which he might carve and shape the gem which he had found. For decades, by the light of smoky torches, Ghwerig patiently carved and polished, muttering all the while the spells and incantations which would infuse this priceless gem with all the power for good or ill of the Troll-Gods. Of finest gold were the rings, and each was mounted with a polished oval fragment of Bhelliom itself. When it was done, he placed the rings one on each of his hands and then lifted the sapphire rose

The Elenium: The Diamond Throne The Ruby Knight The Sapphire Rose. I've read other David Eddings books and enjoyed them immensely. This series was no different. The Ruby Knight (Book Two of the Elenium). It got off to a bit of a slow start while the characters are developed and the world is created for you, but I quickly loved both the characters and the world. This is the first book in a trilogy (followed by another trilogy, The Tamuli). You can stop reading at the end of this trilogy, or continue on to the next if you wish. If you've never read David Eddings, give this series or the Belgariad a try.

The Elenium consists of six books and The Diamond Throne is the first book in this series. David Eddings craft as a writer comes to the fore with the prologue about trolls, as it is in a completely different style to the rest of the novel.

The Elenium consists of six books and The Diamond Throne is the first book in this series David Eddings craft as a writer comes to the fore with the prologue about trolls, as it is in a completely different style to the rest of the novel. It’s like he’s decided to write the prologue in a Tolkein-esqe style just to prove that he could do it, and to impress his critics. The main story is written in David Edding’s normal style, and is very easy to read. The characters of Sparhawk’s friends and colleagues are as vividly painted as he is, they are not two-dimensional, and the reader cares about them.

his seal – if you saw them?’. I would,’ Krager replied. Here’s a note from him that will identify me. Destroy it after you’ve read i. I don’t think so. Martel might want to see the proof with his own eyes. Why didn’t Annias just write down his instructions?’. Be sensible, Krager,’ Harparin said. A message can fall into unfriendly hands.

I really enjoyed this book from the very start. Without giving too much away it's a refreshing twist on how 'Knights' are normally portrayed, specifically the main character. A more traditionally 'human' world with some monsters (no real elves, dwarves, etc). Good characters, has a sense of humor.

One of my favorite authors. If you've read the Elenium I suggest following with the Tamuli which is phenomenal in the way it deals with characters I won't spoil.
Whatever
Its different from the Belgarion.

My hubby loves David Eddings and this set is totally a must for our library. He re-reads every couple years, and probably knows these books by heart, but he insists that each time he re-reads one he finds something "new". David Eddings is just THAT GOOD!!!!!

I was given this book to read by a co-worker. I didn't think I would like it but hoped it would help me fall asleep... WRONG! I was so into the book it cost me sleep as I could not put it down and once finished I couldn't wait to read the others in the series. Then I found out there is another series continuing from this one.
