The Treasured One is the second book in The Dreamers Series by David Eddings. This series takes place in a new ‘universe’, but the stories feel a lot like Mr. Eddings other books but are my least favourite of his stories. I did enjoy the books, but for me they don’t feel quite as epic as his other reads. The second book was fragmented into so many sections that it began to be a bunch of little stories, each with its own protagonist, all culminating in a very predictable ending. We have to endure the same story being retold from five or six points of view. I'll finish the series, but I don't expect to be thrilled. It's just not what I am used to reading from David Eddings.

David and leigh eddings. The treasured one. Book Two of The Dreamers PREFACE. It was a time of uncertainty in the nest of the Vlagh, for no word of success had yet reached the nest from the warrior-servants which had followed the burrows below the face of the ground toward the broad water which lies beneath the sunset. which had spawned us all could spawn still more, and our numbers would grow to beyond counting, and the overmind of which we are all a part would expand, for it grows larger and more complex with each new hatch.

Easily, two-thirds of the book goes back to the events in book one, The Elder Gods, but through different characters perspectives. Much like the first book of the series, there is a lot of backtracking to help develop and introduce characters into the story. Normally, this would be perfectly fine. David and Leigh Edding's second book of the Dreamers series, The Treasured One, will be better known as book 1.5 rather than book 2. Easily, two-thirds of the book goes back to the events in book one, The Elder Gods, but through different characters perspectives.

Much like the first book of the series, there is a lot of backtracking to help develop and introduce characters into the story. Normally, this would be perfectly fine. In this book, though, it is not. Readers will probably not want to spend nearly 300 or more pages reading about the previous book in the series. There is simply too much going over the events of the first war that took place in book one. If you are patient and are able to trudge through this boring large segment of the second book, then you will be happy to know that things do pick up and get interesting again.

The last small portion of The Treasured One brings out the second war with man against the man-bugs. Some of the newer creatures which the Vlagh conjures up are particularly interesting, but not completely original--you could think of a few other stories where similar enemies exist. Most readers will want more detailed action sequences of the war as the battle scenes are cut rather short and things seems to end the exact way as the war did in the first book.

Unfortunately, the bad outweighs the good in this second book of the Dreamers series. It's still an interesting story, but it looks like with a little editing, this four book series could be cut down to three, if not two, books. Hopefully, the rest of the series (two more books) will pick up and get better.

This review continues the product i bought some days ago. Like the first book in the series, the writing more than met my expectations, i did not even know this author had this series, and i was not able to find a good price on other book sites for hardcover of this series, so again my expectations were more than met. I have read many authors, and i was saddened to learn he had passed away, but he left us many many treasures.

This series if well written, funny, and carries the message that different cultures can coexist and appreciate each other. Eddings constantly reminds us that both sides need to try to get along, do more than allow ingrained feelings to rule, and be willing to see the other person or group of people as more than an enemy. And the story is fun!!

Excellent gift for an Eddings fan.

I used to be a huge fan of Eddings. This books is so slow moving, I keep skip ahead to see where the book is going to pick up steam. Most of the books are using various characters to rehash their points of view of the same event, most of the character are not that interesting.

There are few good lines here and there, but it is not worth the money to purchase a Hardback.

I probably will read the next book(in PAPERBACK). If you like the old Eddings. I highly recommend Jim Butcher's new novel Furies of Calderon.
I have always loved any book by the Eddings. I miss them both.A grand couple, I have tried to get every book written by them. Read all of their books ,they special and worth the search.
