His universes are well built, imaginative without having to create extreme explanations to cover holes, and the story lines are thorough and internally consistent. A soldier himself, he covers military tactics and weapons well, glorifying but also with a dark humour. The Last Legion series is particularly creative in how the stranded forces deal with the separation from the rest of civilization. All in all an enjoyable read.

This was the best one so far. If you like military scifi, this series has been overlooked and worth a read.

That is of course until you reread the cover : Warrior's coup Vol.3 (by Michael A Stackpole) which is what you would get instead of the advertised Storm force novel when bought 'new'. Thank you for sending the wrong book twice and wasting my 15 dollars return postage.

The ending was much like the fall of Rome. A mixed bag of hope and failed dreams. Intertwining our past and present quite well with fantasy adventure. A must read!

This was ok. I was hoping with the second book that this series was heating up a little bit. But I think this one slowed down a little bit and was not as exciting as the last. There was still plenty going on, and I did like the book, but I was really hoping for more. I'll probably keep reading this series, but I hope the next book improves on this one.
