Insight Yoga: An Innovative Synthesis of Traditional Yoga, Meditation, and Eastern Approaches to Healing and Well-Being ebook

Sarah Powers’s synthesis of wisdom traditions is awesome. The pictures are excellent and is one of the most well laid out books of its type that I've seen (and I have many yoga and holistic therapy books!)

Sarah Powers’s synthesis of wisdom traditions is awesome. Indeed, each tradition is like a transparent map, which when overlaid one upon another, gives a more complete rendering of the Living Event in which we are all participants. The pictures are excellent and is one of the most well laid out books of its type that I've seen (and I have many yoga and holistic therapy books!) She imparts the knowledge of meridians, chi, organ and joint health via Yin Yoga very succinctly.

Having said that, there are many good restore yoga books that will show the reader how to use props for these yin poses-if that is an issue. Clark's book is well-organized with good explanations of the philosophy and practice of yin yoga and how it has been influenced by Indian Yoga and Chinese Medicine. The Chinese Daoist view is interwoven throughout the book so that the reader will have a much greater understanding of yin/yang, chi, the organ systems and meridians.

This marvelous yoga book is about five yamas, Sanskrit word for restraints, that are nonviolence, not stealing . Get to know your body, understand it, and change your life.

This marvelous yoga book is about five yamas, Sanskrit word for restraints, that are nonviolence, not stealing, non-possessiveness, truthfulness, and non-excess, and five niyamas or practices that are purity, self-discipline, surrender, self-study, and contentment. For laymen, these can be described as the ten commandments of yoga belief and practice.

Yin Yoga can help you sit more comfortably for longer . Western medicine has been skeptical about the traditional energy maps of acupuncture, tai chi, and yoga, since no one had ever found physical evidence of nadis and meridians.

Yin Yoga is not a trademarked system and no special certification is required to teach i. Learning what those variations are and how they affect the movement of the joints is fundamentally important to all forms of yoga.

Yin Yoga is not a trademarked system and no special certification is required to teach it. But we believe the anatomical principles taught in our program will make you a much better yoga teacher, not just a better yin yoga teacher, but a better teacher of all forms of yoga. Because all forms of yoga are dealing with the same anatomical variations of the bones and fascia.

Acclaimed yoga and meditation teacher Sarah Powers is known and loved for her unique approach—Insight Yoga—which combines traditional yoga with the meridians of Chinese medicine, as well as Buddhist meditation. Using Yin (passive) and Yang (dynamic) poses, she demonstrates a series of different yoga sequences that bring benefit to organs, muscles, joints, and tendons—as well as the mind. She also provides a foundational explanation of traditional Chinese medicine theory and mindfulness meditation instruction. Sarah Powers brings us on an inspiring journey inward, and shows the path for cultivating a lasting relationship with yoga that cultivates and strengthens our physical well-being and our mental and emotional clarity.

I've been leading yin yoga trainings at MOSAIC yoga for a few years now and this is the one book that we ask all practitioners to buy. Sarah has a great knowledge of both anatomy and philosophy. She integrates the teachings of multiple eastern systems seamlessly in this book. Not only are the images great and each yin pose well described but the chapters on the meridians are incredible. If you're interested in learning more about Chinese medicine, Buddhism or yoga this is the book you want.

Sarah also has a background in Vinyasa so there is a great section outlining some vinyasa flow sequences at the back! An added bonus. I'm looking forward to attending a training with her next month in Arlington VA.

I stopped halfway through this awesome book to write this review. It's amazing - inspiring, concise, easy to follow/understand and as informative as you would want it to be. I am in love with it. After years of other styles, I can't wait to begin my own Yin Yoga practice, but I'm being a good student and getting through the whole book first. The pictures are excellent and is one of the most well laid out books of its type that I've seen (and I have many yoga and holistic therapy books!) She imparts the knowledge of meridians, chi, organ and joint health via Yin Yoga very succinctly. I can't fault it. Buy it.

Sarah Powers approaches hatha yoga from a yin approach. She reveals how you can go deep within using this yin approach. Its a more self reflective approach to yoga. She is revealing what all yin yoga enthusiasts have discovered for themselves...that yoga when practiced with a sense of deep reflection and breathing can bring up deep insights.

I bought this book as a gift for my daughter who is a Yoga Instructor. She started reading it and never put it down until she was finished. She reads from it in her classes and has learned so much about Yin Yoga that she now teaches two Yin Yoga class a week. For Yin Yoga, there is no one else to go to except Sarah Powers's books and Bernie Clark.

I am a yoga teacher and are now studying yin. I liked that she also focused on yang style (Hatha yoga). I would have liked to see better diagrams on the meridians or channels of the body and more yin. I have her workshop coming up and I wanted to educate myself on her style. I especially like Bernie Clark's book better though.

Sarah Powers in one of the original teachers of Yin. This book is a great complement to her other publications. Here she gives the evolution of her Yin practice.

I use this resource book over and over. Sarah included a clear explanation of Chinese meridian theory, sequences to practice for the various meridians, and her suggestions on how to create your own sequences. The combination of clear descriptions and numerous photos are empowering. If you're a student of Yin yoga, this should be part of your library.
Sarah Powers melds together pieces of philosophies and practices that she finds to be insightful. I love the blending as this is what I've naturally been drawn to doing throughout the course of my life, and I am more inclined to read a book that is not so strict regarding lineage or a "set way" of practicing.

She clearly explains the theories behind Yin Yoga, just as marvelously as Paul Grilley & Bernie Clark do-- but then she also provides excellent, though brief, info on pranayama and Buddhist meditation practices. What Powers ends up providing us readers is a multi-layered practice that incorporates many aspects of yoga: asana (yin & yang), pranayama, & meditation. Practiced in this way, daily, we can cultivate mindfulness, strength, and fluidity.

I've been recommending this book to all of my fellow yoga teachers!
