Ten years of increasing prosperity which followed the depression of the mid-1890s had left a vivid mark on the City. Her silhouette was changing, filling out. San Francisco was riding the top of the boom, and optimism colored all levels of city life. It was a lively time for a lively town. Early photograph of one of San Francisco’s most distinguished features-the cable car. Loved now, but only tolerated then, the cable lines crossed the City’s hills in a complex pattern in 1906.

This photographic record and narrative is an excellent coffee table book, especially for San Franciscans or those born and raised there and live somewhere else. That would be me! The book is also great for those earthquake nerds, like me, who have experienced and are interested in quakes and prefer not to live on the San Andreas Fault anymore.
Due to age of the book's printing and to the photos themselves--from the early 20th century--the pictures should be viewed in very bright light.

Very interesting and informative book. Unlike most books about the earthquake of 1906 in San Francisco, this one addresses the history of The City more and the people of San Francisco. Good information about how people coped with the event.
