I had hoped that these volumes would provide in-depth medical histories of the most influential soldiers of the Civil War but was delighted when I found they make interesting and entertaining reading as well. The books are not a simple chronology of Union and Confederate generals' injuries, illnesses, and treatment but rather are easy to follow and ofte. ONTINUE READING.

I've never read anything quite like this book. Carefully researched and full of great information, but also a page-turner that even manages to succeed at humor, despite the subject matter. I'ved owned this book for years and I still take it off the shelf regularly. Truth is stranger than fiction, and this book does a great job of reminding us. The companion volume, "Medical Histories of Union Generals" is not as readable (though still quite good).
