Kind of an insider's book. Lots of reference to past and contemporary events outside of Russia/Turkey that effected their relationship but without any detailed explanation as to what they were. I guess it was designed for a better read person than I. This book was written before the World War I and the fall of the Ottoman empire so it has an interesting perspective. It also includes Quotation for other journalists and historians who gave their views as the events were happening. Interesting in that these contributors and the author had no idea of the catastrophe coming to both countries.
Mary Elizabeth Wormeley Latimer (1822-1904) was an acclaimed American historian and translator. The first volume, France in the Nineteenth Century, was published in 1892, when Latimer was 70. Latimer's most important work was a series of histories of Europe in the 1800s. Mrs. Latimer's history of Turkey and Russia was her second history, first published in 1893. She followed this with a history of England (1894), Italy (1896), and Spain (1897).
