This is the second book by David Irving that I have read, and it is absolutely superb. Most people with a modicum of knowledge about WWII see the Luftwaffe of 1939-1940 as a quite powerful air force that demolished its opponents effortlessly. As good as the first one I read about Rommel. The Rise and Fall of the Luftwaffe The Life of Field Marshal Erhard Milch is the only book ever written about this much lesser known high ranking member of the Third Reich. It is true the Polish and French campaigns went well, but German fortunes against these air forces was much more a matter of surprise than brute force of numbers, which became clear in Scandinavia.
