I'm not sure why this isn't being talked about more...my son is 1/4 Ecuadorian and has mongoloid spots...we started discussing the human link and how this is usually a Polynesian Asian trait and we ended up watching Kon Tiki and then ordering this mans books. Truly wonderful for the brain!

When I ask someone who is in there forties if they know who Thor Heyerdahl was, I almost always draw a blank. Thor Heyerdahll was such an impressive man, if is difficult to think of any current individual who can even approach him. True life adventurer who set out to prove that early man could, in fact, have actually navigated from Peru across the Pacific Ocean to the South Seas Islands. He did this with a balsa raft, the Kon Tiki. And if that were not enough, Heyerdahl demonstrated that the same possibility held for the ancient people of the Middle East by sailing in a reed raft, The Ra, from Egypt across the Atlantic to Barbados in the Caribbean Sea.
If you are needing an uplifting read, at a time when we have too few heros to admire, This guy will hit the spot!

Thor Heyerdahl should be a role model for all humans. He was a great thinker and had the power of his convictions. He was willing to put it all on the line to test his theories.

He and his crew of trusty not so old salts had an adventure of a lifetime! Mr. Heyerdahl's writing grabbed me and took me along on their voyage. I can think of no other book that informed, entertained, and thrilled me like "The Ra Expeditions." Well, I can't really say that because I tore the world apart looking for this book after reading "Kon-tiki". It was Heyerdahl's first voyage on an improbable craft over a challenging and dubious route.

Thor Heyerdahl ranks very high on my list of authors. His book are at the top of the list of books that have taken me on great adventures ---- and they are all non-fiction!!
Impossible to quantify. Real adventure. Real people. Really happened. With the authors signature. How can it get any better unless you did it yourself.
