Nikki Van De Car spent the months before her daughter's birth knitting constantly to keep her hands busy and to help the time before her arrival pass more quickly. She knitted everything from sweaters and hats to burp cloths and stuffed animals. The 28 patterns collected in 'What to Knit When You're Expecting', for babies aged from 0 to 12 months, are the best of these, and include booties, mittens, bibs and blankets, as well as sweaters, hats and cardigans. All are relatively simple, so can be knit while your mind is elsewhere, and all are immensely practical.

Nikki Van De Car (Goodreads Author). Jun 11, 2015 Lisa Scott rated it really liked it. Shelves: 2015. I knitted 4 of the projects in the book: the Hannah jacket, the baby cozy, the honeycomb blanket, and the Noah sweater.

I bought this book based on the previous two reviews and must say that I am really happy I bought it. This book contains many adorable patterns for girls and boys, and all seem fairly easy to knit. I started on a sweater, and it is really quite simple with well written instructions that are easy to comprehend. I have been knitting for about 1.5 years, so have some experience, but I had purchased another book before-"60 quick baby knits"- and trust me, none of those patterns were quick or easy. This book definitely offers a nice variety of very doable patterns that will look adorable. It is beautifully presented, too- the author tells a little story about each pattern and what was the inspiration behind it. If you are looking for cute projects that you will actually be able to finish during your pregnancy, this book is for you.

I bought this book after purchasing one of the patterns from my LYS. I love how it's divided up by trimester. However, some of the projects I'm just like...really? Like the wool bib. Have the designers never seen a child eat!? A hand knit wool bib? Haha, no. The other projects are so wonderful though that I don't mind.

The patterns in this book are truly beautiful and span a wide range of types. It would have been nice to have a difficultly listed for each one. Each pattern listed the yarn the designer used to create it, but didn't give the weight of the yarn used. This made it a bit more challenging to replicate the look with another color/type of yarn. I would recommend this book for intermediate knitters.

there are few designs in this book that I like a lot, but the majority is just okay. No, I would not recommend this book. If you are looking for a specific pattern, buy it separately on Ravlery.

This book has very useful, adorable patterns for babies that would delight any new Mom! Some very trendy items, like the cocoon; some very useful garments, like the layette and they are done in cool colors (not just pastels).

I wish I would have gotten this book while I was pregnant! I haven't started any of the projects yet, but browsing through they look good for the intermediate knitter. I'm almost there, so it should be a fun learning opportunity. I guess when I ordered the book I was assuming it would be more cut and dry basics, like blankets, socks, booties, jackets, hats and burp rags. It has some fun items in it that aren't really necessities, but still cute to have if you have the time to knit them.
If you are looking for some cute baby gifts that can be knitted quickly, this is a great book. I personally got it for the bunting on the cover. I am knitting it for my new niece or nephew.
