I generally don't like books involving bounty hunters or rich heiresses and this one had both. And yet, somehow it worked. Chantal Worthington attends charity and society events but her passion is hunting down people who have skipped out on their bonds. She keeps this life separate, however, and uses the name Carol Worth as a bounty hunter. Crazy Luke Coleman has a reputation as the toughest and best bounty hunter and he doesn't seem to think much of Chantal's skills, particulary with handcuffing her captures. Both are hunting for Marcus Willowby who was recently found guilty of drugging two women with GHB and raping them. Chantal's involvement is personal; ten years ago, Marcus raped her best friend, Belinda Carlyle, and Belinda still hasn't recovered emotionally to this day. Chantal has blamed herself for not protecting Belinda and feels that capturing Marcus will help Belinda in some way and alleviate her own guilt. Chantal and Luke team up and travel to Tamillo, Mexico to locate him. Meanwhile, a small-time hood has put a price on Chantal's head after she had helped put him behind bars. This was a quick and enjoyable read.

Her target wealthy Marcus Willowby heir to Willowby Whiskey fortune was arrested for raping his dates; a decade ago he got away with raping her friend Belinda Carlyle. The evidence is overwhelming as Marcus videoed his predatory activity so he skipped the state of Missouri. Chantal vows to bring the predator to justice.

Bounty Hunter "Crazy" Luke Coleman is on the trail of the jumper and refuses to allow a claim jumper steal his case especially someone in designer heels. They both realize that Marcus is in Mexico so they head south battling one another every step of the way.

Chantal is a strange mix as a socialite bounty hunter who always gets her man. The story line is amusing as Chantal and Crazy Luke (not the wrestler) battle one another from the first moment they clash over who was bringing in a skipper and never slow down until the final lip lock confrontation. Though overall humorous the glimpse at what rape has done to a victim is handled deftly and compassionately. Carla Cassidy provides an entertaining battle of the sexes with the bounty being love.

Heiress turned bounty hunter Chantal Worthington is chasing down a serial rapist who has skipped bail. He's also the man who attacked her best friend years before. Unfortunately, bounty hunter Luke Coleman is not above using Chantal's leads to go after the same guy. Which was one of my problems. Luke didn't do much work on his own, he was too lazy, instead he just followed Chantal around to find the bail jumper. Not particularly honorable.

Chantal told Willowby she was from North Dakota, then the next page that she was from South Dakota. I'd think he'd be smart enough to pick up on that.

Also, I've noticed in many books that have a couple pretending to be married, often on their honeymoon and well-off, aren't wearing any wedding rings. This would never fly.

Road.to sliver

I really enjoyed reading this book! It had me hooked right away and I couldn't put it down until I was finished reading it (luckily, I was at the airport with a delayed flight). Great story, cute scenes with Chantal and Luke - especially this one particular scene, but I won't spoil it for you. It's a must-read.

I just read Hell on Heels by Carla Cassidy. What a fast-paced story, it's one you won't be able to put down until it's finished. Can you imagine a socialite beoming a bounty hunter? It happens in this story, and there's a hot Cool-hand Luke, too, only it's Crazy Luke this time. Enjoy!
