With Christmas and New Year looming, now's a good time to mention that there will be a new novel from me coming your way at the end of February. I hope that makes 2019 a little more enticing! - Robert Goddard.

Stephen Swan is amazed when he hears that the uncle he thought had been killed in the Blitz is actually alive. For nearly four decades, Eldritch Swan has been locked away in an Irish prison and now, at last, has been released. Shocked and suspicious, Stephen listens to the old man’s story and is caught up in a tale that begins at the dawn of World War II, when Eldritch worked for an Antwerp diamond dealer with a trove of Picassos—highly valuable paintings that later disappeared. Stephen, who finds his uncle by turns devious, charming, and brazen, then meets Rachel Banner, a beautiful American who may have inherited the Picassos—and is determined to see justice done for her family. But in this tale of revenge and redemption, justice is the ultimate illusion. Eldritch, Stephen, and the woman Stephen has fallen in love with soon find themselves fighting for their lives—against sinister forces still guarding a secret that must never be revealed. From the Trade Paperback edition.

This book is a heartwarming story of love, loss, trust, and the difference between God's love and human love. The book opens with Diedra Morris discovering once again that she isn't pregnant. She and her husband have been married for 7 years, and they still cannot conceive a baby. Diedra has a secret that she has kept from her husband that is the reason they aren't getting pregnant. The book follows their journey through disappointment, depression, and disillusionment.

The story also follows Kenisha, a 23 year old mother of three who has just been diagnosed with cervical cancer. Kenisha has a lot of hurt built up over the years, from sexual molestation as a child, to being left to raise her three children alone by all three fathers, being abandoned by her own father, and having a terrible relationship with her mother and her siblings. Kenisha doesn't trust any of her family members to raise her children should the worst happen.

However, God brings Diedra and Kenisha together. Throughout their new friendship, an idea begins forming in Kenisha's mind. Would Diedra and her husband Johnson be willing to adopt Kenisha's kids and give them a stable, loving home that they so desperately need?

This book touched my heart and captured my attention from the very beginning. I read it through in one afternoon and night, because I just couldn't put it down. I think it's a wonderful Christian book because it depicts a story where all is not well in the lives of Diedra and Johnson, and because Kenisha refuses to acknowledge the existence of God. It is very real. The characters, especially Diedra and Kenisha are very well developed, and the other characters are adequately developed. As I have already mentioned, the storyline is very real, well written, and conveys the message that Christians are not perfect.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes reading a realistic story that will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you realize just how much God's love is there for you, regardless of you past or present.

What could be better than a stolen trove of Picasso paintings and a bit of Irish history? Robert Goddard's latest book LONG TIME COMING has both. It's a spellbinding novel!

The time is 1976. Eldrich Swan is released from a Irish prison after 36 years imprisonment. He returns to England and is recruited to recover the Picasso's, currently the property of an American tycoon and in exhibition at the Royal Academy of London. His nephew Stephen and the granddaughter of a Jewish diamond merchant, his former employer and owner of the art, help in the recovery. The paintings had been stolen from a vault of a London art dealer in the early days of World War II.

At the heart of the novel is another story. It's about the dawn of World War II and the neutrality of Ireland featuring real-life characters. Eamon de Valera, a hero of the Easter Uprising of 1916, is Tsoiseach of the Irish Republic having served as early President of the Irish Free State. One Malcolm MacDonald of the British Legation is in Dublin to persuade de Valera and Ireland to join the war effort. It is June 1940.

Also in Dublin in 1940 is one fictional Eldrich Swan searching for a master forger named Desmond Quilligan.

Goddard cleverly takes his readers back-and-forth from 1940 Dublin to 1976. And finally to Belgium to resolve the matter of the stolen art. It's a rewarding and fascinating tale!

Postscript: How many paintings are in a trove? Goddard's trove is eighteen Picasso's---painted between 1907 and the early 1930's. By the time his fictional protagonist searches for provenance in 1976, the paintings would be priceless!

The secret. Deidre's mom told her to disclose it before she married Johnson. But a crippling, mind-distorting fear that he would no longer want to be with her prevented her from telling him. Years later she would learn that what's done in darkness (or in her case, circumstances that happen to you that are beyond your control) ALWAYS come to light. And could possibly ruin a relationship.

Twenty-three-year old Kenisha grew up in a dysfunctional home; barely raised by a drunken but was determined to be everything her mother wasn't to her own "three by three" children. Although she struggled to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table, her children were well behaved, clean and most of all well loved. A devastating diagnosis would change the course of the little family's lives forever.

The two women become unlikely allies as God miraculously intertwines their families together.

Miller's parable is one of emotional healing, borderless love and unpredictable reconciliation. I loved it!Long Time Coming

Have you ever read a story that was so realistic you saw it playing in your head? The characters came to life for me in such a way I felt as if I were living their lives with them. As the hopelessness and sadness of Kenisha' s life entwined with Deidra' s, I found myself unable to put the book down. I was filed with a longing for them to know joy and peace. As their friendship developed, my heart grieved for a mother who would never see her children grow up and rejoiced for a woman who would become a mother in a way she never expected. From the defeat and despair, drug addiction, unwed mothers, poverty, jail, and family rejection that was a constant in Kenisha's life to the peace that comes from gaining a relationship with Christ the Author presented a culture that is experienced in our society today. Learning to trust God, even through the pain, deceit and hurts, Dedira became a woman who stepped out of her selfish, self pitying life to be a woman of love and embedded what God had in store for her.
