Camden-sur-Mer is the prettiest, poshest, most begardened and beservanted retirement community in the vicinity of El Paso. It's certainly nicer than nearby, overregimented Golden Years, an establishment that old friends and Camden residents Caledonia Wingate (large, domineering) and Angela Benbow (tiny, persistent) have dubbed (for its deleterious effect on its inmates) the Geezer Factory. Following several defections from the latter to Camden- sur-Mer, the sleuthing buddies notice a crime wave beginning in the form of a defenestration and then a death-by-hammer.

The dead man was a mere fifty, too young to have much in common with the well-heeled oldsters at the beautiful Camden-sur-Mer retirement community in southern California. His death looks like an accident, but when those ever-alert senior sleuths Angela Benbow and Caledonia Wingate discover that he was courting one of their neighbors, they can't help hoping they'll luck into a nice murder investigation.A second murder confirms their suspicions that a dangerous killer is on the loose. But between Angela's shameless curiousity and Caledonia's blitzkrieg, a mere murderer hasn't a chance. Unless he can eliminate them, too. . . .

As much as I enjoy reading stories by Corinne Hold Sawyer this story didn't seem to be one of her better ones. It was an okay read but not the usual page turner.

A unique mystery because it is set in a retirement home. The characters are elderly folks with spunk & energy, not given to sitting around doing nothing. Caledonia & Angela are two very engaging ladies with imagination & curiosity who help the handsome younger policeman Martinez to solve difficult murders.
Written with wit & charm this is a story very much driven by dialogue, no long burdensome descriptive passages, the story moves along quickly & is a pleasant, easy read. There is no blood & gore to be had here & your brain cells won't be overly challenged, it's just a decent plot with entertaining characters.

This series is set in a retirement center and features feisty senior citizens who are a long way from sedentary! It's not for those who want a challenging puzzle, but it's a quick and easy read with enjoyable characters that you will have fun getting to know.

The 4th book in the Retirement Mysteries by Corinne Holt Sawyer finds the ladies from Camden-sur-Mer at it again. Friends Angela Benbow and Caledonia Wingate investigate the death of Alexander Lightfoot, who was engaged to one of the residents at their retirement community. (not a nursing home!) Even though these two are in their 80's, no one dares to tell them that they are too old to investigate murders, and when they find out the victim was healthy and not suicidal, they immediately decide it was murder. When a second murder victim is found, Angela and Caledonia dig deeper to help Lt. Martinez solve this case, and find out no one (not even the victim) is as they would seem.
I enjoyed the latest book in this series about the irrepressible Angela and Caledonia. Playing a larger part in this book is Tom Brighton, another resident in the community, and his cheerful demeanor in the midst of hip pain adds to the notion that the elderly are adventurous in many ways. I like the spunk and determination of the characters in this series, and I found myself laughing aloud at their antics.
This book shows that retirement does not mean "out to pasture" and shows how valuable the elderly are (to those that, unfortunately, need a reminder!). This was a delightful look at a feisty group of retirement residents that work together to help the police solve a murder. The characters grow with each book in the series and this book was a great addition to the first three. Great for all ages!
The first book in this series is "The J Alfred Prufrock Murders". Enjoy!
