It is Christmas 1972 and one evening prominent lawyer Gerald Fletcher comes home from work to find his wife has been stabbed. I haven’t read many of the McBain books, but this one was short sharp and memorable. You’re right about it being one of the best books in the 87th Precinct series. Amazingly, it achieves its greatness in just a couple hundred pages.
