And yet, in spite of his determination not to recall the details of thediamond cross mystery to which Shag had alluded, Colonel Ashley couldnot help dwelling on one or two phases of what, with justifiable pride,he regarded as one of the most successful of his many cases. Colonel Robert Lee Ashley was a detective by instinct and profession, though of late years he had endeavored, but with scant success, to turnthe more routine matters of his profession over to his able assistants. A little later Colonel Ashley had thrown himself heart and soul into the"Golf Course Mystery," as he marked it on a page in his note-book. On the preceding page were the last entries in a case, the beginningof which was inscribed "The Diamond Cross Mystery. "There was nothing in that clear, calm day, with its blue sky and its flooding sunshine, to suggest in the slightest degree the awful tragedy so close at hand?"
The book was ok,it just to predictable. Misspellings and grammatical errors interrupted the flow. Introduction of characters was somewhat erratic.
Written well, the old English language and slang used back then makes this story interesting and grabs your attention. Makes you think
An interesting golf related murder mystery that is set in the late 20's early 30's.
This book was a mystery in the early 1900s era so there isn't a lot of forensic work used in it. It's basically a retired detective doing some sleuthing after a friend has met an untimely death which was first thought to be a suicide. Unlike the other review I could put this book down but did finish it. It was OK but if you like the mystery and murder type books with a lot of forensic information this is not the book for you. If this author writes mainly in this era it is doubtful that I would read another one of his books.
Story is fun and paints a life of privileged and foolishly neieve characters mixed up with a detective of notable intellect and disguises. Language is dated and no doubt will offend most of today's readers...
Was an O K book for the price.
Not about golf
A little slow but when you are done, it was worth it.
