On their last assignment, GORGON agents Chris Gibson and his partner John Soong protected Russian mob lawyer Andrei Voronin rather than killing him. They covered Andrei's tracks, forged a shaky relationship, and their international intelligence and paramilitary group staged Andrei's death and took him into the fold. Nikita Kazakov, a Russian cop who had used Andrei as a source and promised him protection, plots to avenge his protégé. He soon tracks down Chris-the "killer"-only to find a man he desires, and Chris is just as intrigued. Amidst the danger of the unsolved mystery still lingering around Andrei, Chris and Nikita stalk each other, meet for heated sex, and try to work out who the other is: criminal, cop, hitman... or lover.

This was good! So much better than book 1 (not that book 1 was bad, because it wasn't). Good plot & OMG, Nikita was fierce! I would definitely read another Chris & Nikita story. (so hot!)

This is my first read fm Voinov after his collaboration w/Marquesate on the Special Forces books. Those I loved--with only one peeve. Now I know who contributed all the group sex. I cannot tell you how group sex scenes bore me. It almost doesn't matter what you do w/them; they will give you sex for its sake. Just saying the word "pie" doesn't put one on the table; and it's the same w/the word "love." This book had the three-ways in spades, minus all the patient becoming, all the power of the love relationship that made the SF books extraordinary.

The plot here of international intrigues is highly entertaining, fast paced, with exciting scenes, and well written. No complaint here at all as our guys assassinate, set trap, run against time to get rid of the scums of the earth. I also like both Chris and Nikita, especially Nikita. Most of all I am glad the writers got rid of the M/M/M relationship in the prequel, Clean Slate which I find forced and unconvincing (have to admit it takes a lot of convincing before I favor any M/M/M). The whole time I was hoping that Chris would move on and leave John and Andrei alone as it is so obvious that Chris is the third wheel and his character definitely does not complement the other two who are more down to earth. Chris has a mercurial personality and needs a much stronger partner and I am glad he got that in Nikita, one intriguing character in this sequel. In addition Nikita is an alpha Dom hunk (I have a weakness for this type of character), which makes the direction of their relationship even more interesting. Chris turning up to have a submissive nature is also credible even as I feel that Chris will only submit to Nikita. Granted that I have to overlook the fact that Nikita is supposedly straight and has always been a Dom to female subs. Chris is his first guy. Yes here I rolled my eyes, and again when Nikita "gave in" to Chris. But these two men are so right for each other that I can forgive the writers for that even as I wish that they have injected at least some emotional struggles within Nikita over his sexuality. I enjoy the initial cat-and-mouse game between Chris and Nikita, the growing tension, the attraction and the lust. Maybe they need to really work at it for their relationship to ultimately work as these two are alphas in their own right but I am left satisfied in the end that they would make it. Definitely hope for a sequel on this couple and also the other more "vanilla" couple of the dependent John and his beautiful Andrei.

If you liked the first book 'Clean Slate' and the nice M/M/M relationship in it, then this books is probably not for you. It definitely wasn't for me and I should have realized that just from reading the summary of the book:

'''On their last assignment, GORGON agents Chris Gibson and his partner John Soong protected Russian mob lawyer Andrei Voronin rather than killing him. They covered Andrei's tracks, forged a shaky relationship, and their international intelligence and paramilitary group staged Andrei's death and took him into the fold. Right now I'm going to try and forgot I ever read it.
