The discovery of Alastair’s past connection to Imogen, however, had altered Matthias’s attitude toward him from one of complete disinterest to one of total disgust. Imogen Waterstone has always prided herself on being a thoroughly independent young woman, but now she needs a man of implacable will and nerves of iron. That's why she invited Matthias Marshall, infamous Earl of Colchester, to her home in Upper Strickland. Who better than the legendary explorer to help her lay the perfect trap? Her scheme is simple, really: She plans to let it be known that when she inherited her uncle's collection of antiquities, she also inherited a map to a fabulous ancient treasure. She's sure that her enemy would risk financial ruin in pursuit of the mythical artifact. And to make doubly sure the scoundrel took the bait, she wants Colchester to pretend that he's out to seduce Imogene so that he, too, could get his hands on her map. Yet in all of her plotting, Imogene never anticipates Colchester's violent reaction to her request or her own electrifying reaction to him. Neither does she expect that a malevolent threat would emerge from the labyrinth of London--sinister enough to endanger her and Colchester's lives. From the Paperback edition.

It seems that all of Amanda Quick's book use the same formula, but it works. Older lady (25) in London in some time-frame when they used horse & carriages, who is trying to solve a murder if someone she knows.
She comes up with a scheme to find out who did it, and then comes the very masculine male she wants to help her. They fall in love etc.
if you like this kind of book, which I do, you will like her books. This one is by far the best one I've read yet!

There is no most or least with books by Jayne Ann Krentz as she is my favorite author and I have never read a book written by her that I did not like. I would recommend any and all of her books to anyone as WONDERFUL READS. I did enjoy the large print books also.

I read this book many years ago and remember how Amanda Quick started me on a journey and love for Historical Romance. Don't pass up this fantastic read, especially if you enjoy mystery, strong-willed woman, dangerous man, and good laugh.

This book made me dive in the exciting story for the length time. Imogene Waterstone was very original and brilliant lady, who didn't give a fig of what the Polite Society thought about her. And I love how Matthias Colchester reacted to Imogene's request and behavior. So Amanda Quick did the wonderful book again. Do add it to your Romantic collection.

This book was exactly what I read this genre for....fun, quick read with characters I like, living in a world different from my own that captures my imagination, who are emeshed in a plot that is entertaining and keeps me engaged. This Amanda Quick creation also kept me laughing throughout more than any of her other offerings have done....she's often had me chuckle here and there, but this one had me laughing out loud over and over. I'd really love to have the characters show up in a follow-up because I can easily see them on future adventures together. I could go on and on....but will control myself and simply say I highly recommend this one.
generation of new
As always, enjoyed Krentz voice. This who done it kept ,me guessing for longer than usual. Signature spun KY off beat heroine and laconic hero.

This author tends to follow a set formula in writing her books. This book actually was one of her better books. It has interesting plot twists.
I bought this book many years ago while on vacation. I have read this several times and enjoy it every time. This is my all time favorite Amanda Quick. I'll read this again in a year or so and enjoy it all over again!
