B Griffin Men In Blue ONE I think I am, the long-haired, long-legged blonde thought, torn between excitement and alarm, about to have my first affair with a married ma. er name was Louise Dutton, and she pursed her lips thoughtfully and cocked her head unconsciously to one side as she considered that improbable likelihood. She was at the wheel of a yellow, six-year-old, 1967 Cadillac convertible, the roof down, moving fifteen mile. He was wearing a blue blazer over a yellow knit shirt. The shirt was tight against his large chest, and there wasn't, she thought, a lot of excess room in the shoulders of the blazer either.

As with all of the W.E.B. Griffin series, the author is a master story teller. The action, personal involvements of all the characters and the politics of a great organization are all there in great detail. Once you start reading, expect to be in one seat for a long time because you won't be able to put it down.

On a different note, I don't know when or how the book was edited or printed but there were many typographic errors, words run together, and some misspelled. I mention this not to take away from the story but as a criticism of the editing, proofing and printing. This author deserves better.

W.E.B. Griffin's homage to those who "protect and serve" begins here.

On reading "Men in Blue" for the second time I found it just as enjoyable as it was the first time, two years ago. Griffin's development of characters draws readers into the lives of each to the point where you come to feel you know them, almost like friends or neighbors, and want to come to know them even more.

Griffin's novels are a blend of fact and fiction that not only tell a story but educate at the same time; "Men in Blue" (as well as the other books in the series) follows the events, loves, and disappointments of the members of the Philadelphia Police Department. A mixture of action (chasing and bringing to justice, one way or the other, the bad guys (and girls); and, the politics within the city administration; police department; and, in some cases. families, Griffin manages to keep the reader turning pages (or scrolling through as is often the case) through the night.

A good read and a lead-in to the books that follow. Pay particular attention to Peter Wohl, Matt Payne, Coughlin, Carlucci, Lowenstein, McFadden, and Martinez (takes notes if you must) particularly if you intend to read the entire series. Enjoy!

I had a 32 yr. career with the LAPD. Patrol, Motors, Gangs, Homicide, and my last 7 yrs. as a Detective Supervisor in Narcotics Div. Griffin's take on law enforcement is great. His take on COP humor, confidence, terror, love life, and interaction with the criminals causes me to think of the word - genus. Some may think that some things in the series are far fetched. I'm here to swear that, if anything it may be understated. However, he takes you to the incidents and lets you decide how far they should go.
Pure genius Mr. Webb.

This is the only series by WEB Griffin I had not read. I love it. There is a lot of character development occurring so it is a bit slow at times. But there is no other way to bring it all together. There are a lot of characters in this series and you will find yourself rooting for the rookies and the old timers. I am on 6 already and know that when they are done I will feel like I am missing some close friends or family even.

I had never read the books by Griffin on the cops before. This too much like his other series is an excellent story with believable characters. His research provides a good insight into a realistic working of a big city police department. The story is a bit dated, but since I'm an old guy the period was a trip through nostalgia. It seams funny not to have cell phones and our other modern technology. If you like to read a good detective story get ready for a good story in the fast lane.

Just reread this book and enjoyed it as much as the first time. I am looking forward to reading the next book again.

Just another outstanding novel from WEB Griffin! The guy knows how to hook your interest. He is very good at explaining the past so that the readers can catch up on developments in prior unread books. If he writes a book, I'm reading it, he is one of my favorite authors!

I have enjoyed every other series under the W.E.B. Griffin pen name and this one did not fail to start off another series. It is a refreshing change of pace that it has a different subject matter from the rest of his series in that it follows the Philadelphia police department instead of a group of soldiers or marines. Well written with just the right amount of detail, he is able to make the story about the people and not the minutiae of the setting or backhistory.
