Ruth Francisco, to my delight, has brought Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis to life on the pages of "The Secret Memoirs. Fiction or not, I get a much more realistic feel for who she was as a person, a woman, not just what she represented. And I like and admire her more for knowing. The author writes that her intention in writing this book was not to violate Jackie's privacy - but "to get a sense of the woman behind the myth, the human behind the icon. I thank her. A Good Read. Looking forward to her next book.

Who was Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis? She was a wife, mother, artist, editor, and world traveler. A bright young woman who rose to unparalleled celebrity. One of the world's most inspiring and influential women of her day, she has become arguably the most important female icon of all time. Yet she also was a woman of passion and deep emotions, who wanted to experience all that life had to give. How did she feel about it all? She never told.Jackie said quite famously, "I want to live my life, not record it." Jackie remains elusive, her interior life hidden, her soul masked behind sunglasses and an enigmatic smile. For the first time, these fictional memoirs tell Jackie's story in Jackie's voice--with all her joy and wit, grief and bitterness, gentleness and fortitude. Ruth Francisco boldly plunges into the subtext of Jackie's public life, psychology, and sexuality, beyond her dazzling mythic exterior, reimagining Jackie's feelings and thoughts between the lines of recorded history. In this riveting epic tale, we follow Jackie's journey from her privileged yet wrenching youth, through the exaltation and suffering of her marriage to John F. Kennedy, to the shattering despair of her losses, exile, and loneliness. Powerful, poignant, and inspiring, The Secret Memoirs of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis is a sweeping novel, a mythic fable of the trials and tribulations of the female soul.

Growing up with father who was a city editor of local newspaper, I paid far more attention to The First Family than most 5 year olds normally would. I spent hours in the city room watching photos of them churning off the UPI, AP teletype machines. As I was just a bit older than Caroline, had a new baby brother too, it fascinated me to look at photos of them playing in the White House! Many of the better children's clothing stores of the day, sold litlle dresses copied from what she wore, just as 7th Ave ensured her mothers dresses were available to any woman who wanted to dress like Jackie. Unlike most little girls at the time, I UNDERSTOOD my dress was like Carolines & my mothers dresses were copies of Mrs. Kennedys & why this mattered.
Since i loved fairytales, kings, queens, castles, magic spells, witches, etc...Jackie seemed like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella all rolled into one. And, on my 9th birthday, JFK was assassinated.

From the age of 6, I read everything on the first family. After11.22.63, I kept scrapbooks with hundreds of
Photos carefully organized and captioned. While my disappointment in JFK was profound as I began to understand
How he much he hurt his wife, my admiration for Jackie never waivered in 50 yrs. .Like all of us,
She had flaws and shortcomings. Still, after all the books, the gossip, the lies, the allegations etc, I still believe her to be
An amazing, unique figure who was, above all, true to herself. I believe she deeply loved JFK, put him and her children
Above everything and did it with a dignity that is now extinct. This book brings her to life and if you have read as many books on her as I, then you know that this book is closer to non fiction than fiction. "Mrs. Kennedy" by Barbara Lemming, American Queen by Sara Bradford & Mrs. Kennedy and Me by Clint Hill are very consistent with the woman who emerges
From these pages. Ms. Francisco took her personal ,insightful observations of Mrs. Kennedy and with care & delicate skill
Wove Mrs. Kennedy's own thoughts together giving us a book which comes as close to an autobiography as she would have wanted.
As we will could hope to have. This book plus the recordings Jackie made in 1964 that were released last fall come full circle. For over 50 years I have seen Mrs. Kennedy as a example of quiet dignity, dedication to family, and one who followed her inner
Compass in spite off all odds. This book confirms everything I have sensed about this woman since I was 6. Thank you so ver, very much.

Jackie is a fascinating personality and it was hard not to enjoy even if it isn't really Jackie and one does feel - how can anyone know what someone else is thinking? But after all the books and information and tapes of Jackie herself, it's a fun book to read, even if at times, many admirers of hers wince and think "Oh, she would not think that".....but how do we know! So enjoy, it's fiction based on real events and the author obviously had read up on her subject's life and took a chance to write from the view point of the most written about woman in history.

Being a huge JKO fan, I really enjoyed this fictional memoir told in Jackie’s voice. I thought the author did a good job of capturing Jackie’s spirit. .

Though no fault of the author, I only wish that the editors/publishers did a better job of finding all the spelling errors in the Kindle edition!

This is a novel about the ultimately mysterious JBKO. There was emotional truth here. Francisco may have gone over the line occasionally, but remember this is a novel. I believed that Jackie's life was complicated and often very difficult.

You know what? I liked this book. The story is told in the first person, as if Jackie was telling her life story. I know this is a work of fiction, but it really makes you think about her side of the story. I think that Jackie always got a bad rep for being an "ice queen". After reading this book, I can understand why she was percieved to be that way and why she gave people that impression. You can't take anything in this book as fact, but it does bring up things we always wanted to know; did she know about Jack's affairs? If she did, how could she stay with him? If she didn't, was she dumb? Did she have an affair with Bobby? What did she see in Ari, besides his money? Why did she shy away from the public eye? How did she feel about the Kennedy family?
Unfortunately, Jackie never wrote a book so we will never really know the true answers to these questions. This book offers good answers to those questions on how she "might" have thought.

i just loved this book and even though i kept in mind throughout the whole novel that it was strictly fiction i really felt like i was reading jackie's journals throughout the most difficult, dramatic, and emotional roller coaster like years of her life. the novel just makes you wonder if these secret fictional memoirs superbly written by ruth francisco resemble any hidden truth about this most private woman. i just thought the book was captivating, telling all yet mysterious at the same time, i read it in two nights and then i read it again and again. if you're looking for an interesting vivid read on jackie o you should definitely read this one.
