Several times I laughed out loud.

Simon and Schuster, 15 февр. Anna Munson is constantly pestering the powers-that-be for true love and, quite frankly, Cupid's had it up to here. In fact, he's so fed up that he sends her an arrow of true love even though she hasn't proven herself worthy. Worse, he does it while she's on her first date with Nick Wells - and Nick is barely worthy of true like. Cupid's rash behavior could cost him his wings if discovered by his higher-ups. But hopefully Nick and Anna will ruin their relationship before that happens. They are human, after all. He just got caught in the crossfire.

Sam always thought, somewhere in the back of her mind, that someday she would marry Greg - the boy next door - the coolest, sexiest, most interesting person she'd ever met, and Sam isn't easily impressed. She's loved him forever, even after he dumped her years ago, but when he tells her over drinks at their local hangout, Bogart's, that he's in love with the frumpy, single-mother that he met in the garage where he works, Sam can't believe what she's hearing

Her life's becoming a nightmare. Samantha Stone could have a wonderful life if only other people would cooperate. Like Greg Irvington, for instance. He's the man Sam always knew she'd end up with...right up until the moment he told her he's in love with someone else. Then there's her family, who have this annoying habit of disapproving of the way she lives. And don't even get her started about the holidays, which Sam would really prefer to be cancelled for a year or two -- at least. All that changes when Alex Graham comes into her life. He's the man of her dreams. Alex Graham is smart, sexy, successful, sensitive, and ready to commit. There aren't many guys like him around; in fact, there aren't any. He's a figment of Sam's imagination -- one she makes the mistake of mentioning to her friends, her family, and Greg because she's tired of going it alone. And why should she have to when there are struggling actors like Mark Simpson eager to take on the role of Alex? Everyone who meets him swoons. Pretty soon, though, Mark's taking his role so seriously that Alex is more trouble than a real boyfriend. It's quickly becoming obvious that in order to reclaim her life and her self, Sam is going to have to end the charade...and break everyone else's heart in the process.

Diane Stingley is a community columnist for a newspaper in my area. Her style is satirical, witty, and so on target. Her subject matter is usually us--Americans and the culture we are trapped in. When I heard she had written a novel, I knew I would have to read it. I devoured Dress You Up in My Love in a couple of days; it took that long only because I wanted to savor the humor. Several times I laughed out loud. "Nothing like finding out you're gay to straighten out your life" was my favorite line. I haven't laughed this much since I read Raney by Clyde Edgerton a few years back. The first-person narration is perfect for this story. The ending is a roller coaster ride. Buy this book for your summer reading; you and your friends will take turns reading it. I hope Diane is working on another one!

This book CRACKED me up! As a busy single chick who definitely feels the family holiday pressure of "So where's YOUR boyfriend?" I can totally relate to Samantha Stone and her misadventures in singledom and daughterdom. You will not BELIEVE the antics in this book. I was on the floor laughing while also falling in love with all the characters, and you'll never guess what happens in the end. You deserve a break from battling humanity at the malls and figuring out how to baste a turkey for the first time. BUY THIS BOOK AND READ IT IN ONE NIGHT! Much more accessible than "Good in Bed" or "Confessions of a Shopaholic." And you can buy it for all your girlfriends, too, just in time for Christmas!

I am not a big fiction reader and happened to pick this book up "just 'coz". It was one of the best surprises I've received recently. The main character's plot is crazy, but uncanningly not too far from what many of us are capable of doing! I enjoyed this book so much and constantly found myself laughing out loud while I read it. A definite recommended read for anyone with a sense of humour, especially women who've haven't had a straigt-line-path in relationships with the opposite sex.

Seriously fun! I really like the whole imaginary boyfriend thing because you just KNOW things are going to go to hell. I would have given it 5 Stars but I only give 5 stars to one book (ok, three) and that is the Lord of the Rings. Yes, I know, I am one of those people. But we like Bridget Jonsey things, too.

This a book for anybody who has been made insane by the holidays. I dread having to go back East every year at Christmas and face the family with no guy on the horizon. How many times have I thought about inventing a boyfriend just to keep the heat off? This one made me laugh and I know that I will be picturing all of Samantha Stone's craziness as I am being interrogated about my lovelife over the Christmas turkey, this year. I laughed out loud about 20 times while I was reading Dress You Up In My Love and I think that anybody who loves the chick-lit books will go for this one.

Brilliant. This novel is truly hilarious.

As you may have read in the other reviews, Stingley is not inventing a new genre or even telling a new story. But the way she tells this story is simply wonderful.

I have not laughed out loud while reading in a long time, and there were many moments that I snickering, chuckling, etc, while reading this book. The characters, dialogue, and main character's ruminations are just tasty.

I highly recommend this as a fun book to read and enjoy!

I just finished this, and I really enjoyed it -- a lot more than I thought I would, even. It's more than just your typical chick lit book, despite the silly romantic comedy premise. (By the way, the silly romantic comedy premise was an awful lot of fun, and the reason I bought the book in the first place, so don't think I'm knocking it. I'm not.) Instead, we get a genuine, interesting novel about a set of characters who felt like real people. Even when the author was playing things up a little for comic effect, none of these characters felt like caricatures or cartoons -- they always came across as real people. The plot did get slightly ridiculous in places, but hey, what can you expect from a novel in which a woman hires an actor to play her fake boyfriend at family gatherings? It never got absurd, though.

And best of all, I felt like Samantha had really grown and changed thoughout the course of the novel. She had a newfound understanding of herself and her relationships with other people by the end of the book. The character development was very satisfying to watch.

I also loved the author's style -- deadpan and sarcastic without being cynical or mean. Very funny stuff; I was laughing out loud in places.

Good book! I'm going to be looking out for more by this author!
I totally loved this book! I actually picked it up because a friend told me it was totally appropriate for the holidays and all of the family angst and insanity that goes along with them. I couldn't stop laughing when I read it! The heroine is a real nut in that great Bridget Jones kind of way. The family is hysterical and I LOVED the actor and all of his "I am an artiste!" schtick. He made such a great straight man ( I mean in the humor sense, not the non-gay sense :-) This is a great quick read (I read it all in one sitting, which is a real miracle for me) and you can and should make it a point to read it sometime during all of the craziness and parties and shopping this season. Since it took me an hour to wait for a parking spot the last time I headed to the mall, I think you should have a copy on your person in case any time like that springs up. Not that I am advocating reading and driving, of course.
