I read EMT Beyond the Lights and Sirens many years ago. I am a volunteer EMT in a small town and this really resembled what we do. I was curious if Pat had written another book and found this one. It didn't disappoint. I recommend it.

I read "EMT: Beyond the Lights and Sirens" many years ago, when I was still an active EMT myself. In that earlier book, the author told of her entry into the world of EMS and of the challenges of learning how to save lives. In this book, the author is a seasoned veteran, an instructor and an officer in her squad. As a result, this book is different in tone, a bit more reflective. While there are stories about calls she's run and the patients she's helped, this book is less about the excitement of the calls, and more about the people. The author tries to show us the impact on the patients and their families, on her fellow EMTs and on her family.

In many ways, this book is less about the emergency services than it is about community. The author seems to be trying to explore her connections to her community and the bonds that she shares with it. Her perspective, shaped by years of service in her largely rural community, is positive and uplifting. She has captured much of the spirit of the volunteers I knew and worked with back in my time.

I read this, the second of Pat's books, first. I was then compelled to go back and read her first book also. Beyond the glamor and dangers of big city rescue squad operations is the more personal type of work provided by the rural squads. This book as well as her first one capture the essence of these operations well. I am a rescue squad volunteer today because of these books. I have in fact run many calls with Pat and she really is the loving, caring person you would expect from the flavor of her books. Well worth reading for anyone with a concern for others even if they don't go on and become a volunteer themselves.

Alot of good stories involving EMT's in this one. Ivey tells of her experiences in a touching way. How her work affected not only her, but, her friends and family. Alot of good stuff. My hats off to all volunteer EMTs of the world. I'm also going to look for her 1st, EMT.

This book describes EMTs to a tee. We never know when we're going to be home, we sometimes don't get to spend a lot of time with our family, and our life is filled with adrenaline, loss, and victories. What more could you ask for in a good book?

Let pat be your tour guide in this thrilling journey were you will experience what the emergency medical field is all about
This book was "edge of your seat exciting" at some points. However other sections were a struggle to continue through. I would read anyways for it is very thought provoking and really makes you appreciate your volunteer workers. Also, having just lost a best friend who was a sr by drunk driving, it helps encourage u to make the right decisions and such.
