HELEN BIANCHIN grew up in New Zealand, an only child possessed by a vivid imagination and a love for reading. His command of English was pitiful, and her command of Italian was nil. Fun? Oh yes! So, too, was being flung into cooking for workers immediately after marriage, stringing tobacco and living in primitive conditions.

It was in Cairns that Helen met her future husband, Danilo Bianchin, an Italian immigrant from Treviso.

The hero uses his wealth and power to force an innocent woman to marry him to save her father from prison. She doesn't want to, but he's just so darn sexy and powerful, she has no choice. Helen Bianchin was encouraged by a friend to write her own romance novel and she hasn’t stopped writing since! Helen’s interests include a love of reading, going to the movies, and watching selected television programs. She also enjoys catching up with friends, usually over a long lunch!

It starts with our Heroine on top of the world, full of bliss and love for the Hero, her first lover. In her peak of happiness she tells him, " I love you." with a smile on her face, to which he leans in close to her ear and says, " I don't love you." Point blank. Of course it broke the heroine's heart and she left him. Good call in my book, why stay with someone who doesn't love you.

Years later, she comes into his office to get him to forgive her fathers debt. And he says only if she will marry him and bear him an heir. A clear cut business deal... er .... contract. Of course she doesn't have a choice and chooses marriage while commenting how he doesn't have emotions and he replies with a simple smile and chuckle.

It advances with her at his mercy, but over time (after the turning point) the roles switch where she has control, but she just doesn't notice it and acts the same through out the story, depressed and stubborn ( mostly out of fear of succumbing to her feelings after all she's nothing more than a bought bride, no love).

I loved seeing the hero change. A beneficial contract to both parties, to him being happy to having her ( he smiles more) and finally starts to notice the Heroine more... or finally notice what he's doing.

I've read this numerous times and got dragged through the Heroine's feelings while noticing more and more things.

If you don't like heavy emotional stories, I'd skip this one, but for me sometimes I wanna get dragged through the mud and cry.

What was great was everything was important, the expressions, the character development. If something happened differently I don't know if we would have gotten the same conclusion.

I will say I wish not all harlequin stories had a 'happy' end, cause we all know every ending......... and the got married and lived happily ever after ( sometimes it after marriage but still they end up together)
This is one of the many stories I wouldn't mind if they didn't end up together.

I liked the aspect that you initially have strong reason to believe Xavier still has feelings for Romy from their previous relationship.
This story was a tad bit slow and I can see someone would describe it as boring.
*Big piece of advice: Do not read "The Andreou Marriage" by the same author right before reading this book. I kept finding so many very, very close similarities (down to guys from both books wearing chambray shirts).

Sigh...where to start? *rolls eyes*. It wasnt my cup of tea unfortunately. This guy was supposed to be a bad ass but became a pussy cat that lacked conversational skills and smiled "enigmatically" at everything.

Great book! No major drama, Just 2 people falling in love! The guy was in love since the first page! I love it!

Romy returns home to her new teaching job and to her father who has embezzled company funds and taken money from a loan shark to gamble. Now on the brink of going to prison, she confronts the man she ran away from a few years ago to ask for his help. The reason she walked out on Xavior was because he said he didn't do love. Now he offers his help, but she has to marry him....The book starts off strong and then for eight long chapters, there is Nada! It's all about Romy's thoughts, Romy's day, Romy's grading papers, etc,etc...it's a bore. Nothing of Xavior and what's going through his head, or what he really feels. In the first eight chapters, they are rarely together except for sex and sometimes the dialog was hard to tell who was talking, not that there was much dialog. From Chapter ten to the end it did finish in true Harlequin fashion but by then I couldn't wait to finish the book and move on. I can't really recommend this book.

The characters are very good. The story flows easily. Nice book to read. Really enjoyed reading the book and highly recommend it.
Great! I love this book! Had in paperback bought it for my kindle! The heroine is strong not sappy but is vulnerable and the male character is very lovable and strong-
