Smallchief, in a Jan 27, 2005 review reported giving up on this book after reading 300 pages. Thanks to that review, I gave in to my better judgment and tossed the book out after 26 pages. I did read a random selection of later pages. It seems to me that fully 50% of the text is taken up with totally irrelevant descriptions of the fashions that this or that character is wearing or carrying. In a good mystery story, no one gives a good royal Philadelphia flying you-know-what the particular brand of handbag that a character is carrying, let alone whether the color is mauve or taupe. But this seems to be an obesession with Lindsey. HEY DAVE - WRITE FOR FASHION WEAR DAILY AND LEAVE THE MYSTERY STORIES TO WRITERS BETTER THAN YOU.

This is one good read! It's like a slowly building orgasm, having nothing to do with the masochism or sadism in the book, but rather due to the complexity of the story and the layer upon layer of plot twists. This is a very intelligent and well written book, which gets better as the story unfolds.
