It's audience is exactly as the title says; but I found it to be quite over the top on it's focus on Joe-Blasco product line reccomendations; particularly annoying when those products have an unjustified price hike over analogus products, and there are no good online retailers for the product line, as it is generally sold direct to the pros.

Fantastically written, detailed and informative. This is the first text book for make up artists, is informative to the point for a novice and has plenty of new techniques seasoned veteran. If you are looking for a book on everyday make-up or special effects you will not find Professional Make-up Artist helpful.
The most important chapter I found was on proper sanitization practices and cleaning your brushes- VERY needed to keep your clients healthy and being professional, all artists should learn this.

The Professional Make-up Artist is a heavy and dense book familiarizing you with everything you need to know to be a well informed professional artist for film: knowing your brushes, light and color differences, lashes, products and product safety, facial contouring, familiar and used nomenclature, and so much more!

This book is written by Joe Blasco along with much input from the RCMA,so it has quite a bit of the products they have created together reviewed and discussed in the book. It is his book so I would expect nothing less than presenting his products in a detailed forum.

Professional Make-up Artist is a step toward standardizing an unstandardized profession, the first book of its kind. I am glad that the industry has realized that moving in a direction to help make-up artists learn all aspects of the profession from the art, science and history is beneficial to the artists and those in our chairs.

I am so glad I spent the extra money and bought The Professional Makeup Artist. There is so much detailed information about every arena of makeup artistry and the myths of the industry. I enjoy Joe Blasco's direct approach to writing the book and doesn't hold anything back. I am taking a class in makeup artistry at this time and this book corrected some of the lessons I've learned in my class! Lessons that didn't seem professional and he confirmed that they weren't good practices in the first few chapters. Thank you Joe Blasco!
