Excellently written, objective book. It features extensive interviews with the people who actually experienced these events, which always enhances historical subjects. It tells the saga of a legendary British combat command and the people who made it great. A must for anyone interested in World War II and the units who participated in it.

This book is great! I liked it so much, I went out and bought a "Honey" tank and drive it around the city, wearing a British tank berret and speaking with an accent! (smile) Seriously...this book is a good read if you are interested in WWII Desert campaigns. Wished there was more information map and tactic wise, but that is probably a different subject. "Buy, it today, Old Boy!"

this book is a fair effort and quite readable in style as it follows the 7th armoured from its formation just before the war, through the desert campaigns and on into italy and eventually europe. Much of the book is collection of narrative stories and recollections from privates to generals and since all battles tend to look the same at the small individual scale - noise, confusion, death and destruction - the reading started to get a bit repetitive unless you are a dedicated military buff.
worth a read for dedicated western desert fans in particular but I think Barrie Pitts 'Crucible of War' and 'Western Desert' books give a more coherent overview the desert campaign (the bulk of this book also) for general readers
