In A Worried Song After Work, a young labor lawyer nearing bumout rediscovers some of his earlier idealism as he tries to live up to what he perceives as the lofty expectations of his blind date. In Burying the Blues, a junior college history teacher seeks out the origin of the Houston blues, interviewing aging musicians and poking around black neighborhoods.

Tracy Daugherty is an American author. The Woman in the Oil Field (1996). It Takes a Worried Man (2002). He is Distinguished Professor of English and Creative Writing at Oregon State University. He has held fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. Daugherty has written biographies of several important American writers of the mid-20th century.
