Rosemåling is a style of Norwegian decorative painting on wood that uses stylized flower ornamentation, predominantly primary and secondary colors, scrollwork, lining and geometric elements, often in flowing patterns. Landscape and architectural elements are also common.

This is a good resource book on the Telemark style of rosemaling. It covers the history of the art, it offers information on supplies needed, along with woodenware and background preparation. Patterns are included, as well as, wonderful color photos. Also included are a glossary of rosemaling terms, sources for Norwegian heritage woodenware, and a suggested reading list. I recommend this book to any rosemaler, beginner or experienced, as it is a wonderful reference book for your rosemaling library.

Rosemaling Heirlooms of Tomorrow is a valuable reference. The material covered is comprehensive on everything one needs to know to successfully create a beautiful artistic work. Graceful Telemark Acanthus Scrolls, Vines and horns, shaded in the authentic Norwegian Rosemaling stylea. Many stylea are in the book, but I think none are prettier than the acanthus. There is a chapter dedicated to English sayings as well as religious and biblical saysings to adorn the surface borders of a piece where appropriate in English and a Norwegian translation. Lastly, there is a brush script alphabetic paint lettering guide with specific brush recommendations for script lettering.
