Well written, simple to read and beautiful pictures; this book does a great job of introducing young children to the story of our flag. Great for reading out loud and easy for young readers to read themselves. The author and illustrator did a fabulous job capturing a story of US history.

I bought this book to share with my first grade students for Flag Day. They enjoyed the pictures and the repetition, but we all felt it was more appropriate for preschoolers.

The children's book "Betsy Ross" by Becky White, is a work of pure genius. As a writer, I know how difficult it can be to write so few words to tell a whole story. Ms. White has pulled off the task with charm and delight. A happy story, Children will love the repeated words like "snip, snip" and "drip, drip." They will learn in a fun way about our country's flag, and that Betsy Ross chose to make one less point on the star. Ms. White even gives an example for readers to make their own five-pointed star by one snip of the scissors. The illustrations are done with cloth in combination with other textures, which are perfect for Ms. White's story. Thank you, Ms. White, for taking the time and effort to give our children and grandchildren the story of our flag.

Went and heard the author read this book at a local library. The kids all sat enthralled as the whole book was read. Great rhyming and rhythm throughout the story, I would highly recommend this book for children 3-8 years old. We did the fold-and-cut star activity as shown in the back of the book and it gives kids a fun little skill in making a five-pointed star. Get this book for your family library!

This is one of the most well written books for its age group that I have found. Whimsical rhymes and delightful pictures make this a history lesson that four- and five-year-olds will not forget, and parents will enjoy reading this important story again and again!

This is an altogether charming book. The illustrations, instead of more common drawings, are stitched. What could be more perfect for a story about the making of the first American flag? The concise narrative admirably enhances the artwork without overwhelming it.
